New Client on the market

Post by Tribble »

I should probably put this in the For Sale section but as I am not asking for anything in return - I thought it would be a better fit here.

Edenvale
Anyone like to adopt a lawyer as a client from next year onwards. I have made a decision - I will not be doing their work next year. My life is too short and I should not feel like this every time they call. If you are a guy - it is really easy money and you won't be affected by those women. They know nothing - will let you do what you need to do, and pay you for it too.

There are only 3 ladies in the office and the man who runs things. If you are male - they will not involve you in their office politics and you will not feel the need to drive a long bladed knife into their chests. It really is an easy job. They are also due for software and hardware upgrades soon - so there is some extra money to be made.

I will be happy to take you there and introduce you and show you what is needed. It is only a few hours a month - if things go well.

Post here or send me a PM - this is a serious offer.

The work precisely will be? The outline above is very vague.

Basically updating their LegalPerfect software whenever there is an update (could be two to three times a month).
Keeping the antivirus software up to date by renewing the annual license and typing in the new code.
Doing occasional backups of their software (I have shown them how to copy to a memory stick but they don't do it).
Occasionally showing them how to scan documents in again.
Loading the new certificates when the old ones expire.
Sorting out ADSL problems if they occur.

It is a really simple setup. They are running XP Home with a home network (peer to peer). The one machine is called the server and connects to the internet and hosts the legal software. There are no proxys, no extra firewalls, no nothing.
There will be general questions like - I can't find my file, my folder has disappeared again. Where is my icon with the little people on it, where have all my icons gone (unused icons folder), How do I scan all these pages into one document (meaning how do I made a zip file), I can't open this attachment (they use office 2003 and are trying to open 2007 files) etc.

Nothing that much knowledge is needed for. They communicate with the banks using lawactive.co.za. Most of the time you just have to tell them to phone LegalPerfect support or Law support but there are times you can fix the problem yourself.

It is not rocket science and will not take up too much time. I got it as a learning tool and benefited greatly - but I have become too involved and need to get out before I kill someone. A guy would not have this problem.

Is it a monthly payment arrangement, or per ad hoc contact?

Replied - it is ad hoc. I offered him the contract route but he doesn't to commit to expenses. Though he does pay invoices on time.

Pity about the no-contract. Not sure if Claude will be available for this then.
Prob is, they operate predominantly central, west and north rand. The east is very much out of their way considering it's an ad-hoc case.

Best is to give him a call and have a talk to the man himself.

I will thanks - but I have had another nibble too. Will sort it out in Jan when the boss returns. He is going on leave tomorrow.

I have to - had 7 calls from them this morning. They want me to tell them over the phone why one machine cannot see the network when the others can. I tell them to call someone in to help them but they insist on calling me. I just cannot wait to have them off my hands. Have to go back tomorrow to finish an installation of a new drive. So the call me to find out if they must let the computer do the updates and will pressing start affect anything?
