Hi Guys. I have an HTC Magic from Vodacom. I would love to get newer Roms for it, but all the links I've looked at here are for things belonging to the Hero which seems to have the same specs, but I'm scared to put it on my phone.

Also, been doing research on XDA (I'm new to all of this, so maybe didn't do it well enough), but apparently I have a Perfect SPL 1.33.0010 and apparently I have to update the SPL which according to SPL can brick my phone and will void my warranty.

I'd appreciate the help from you more technical folk :) ...

Regards

Itai

putting on a new ROM will void your warranty so if that concerns you then you need to stop right here.

The XDA forums have all the guides and tools you will need. Just don't try putting Hero software on your Magic.

Any kind of flashing can brick your phone. You have to do something really stupid to actually brick your device, but it's always possible.

If you're afraid to risk it, don't do it.

Personally, that's never stopped me :P I'll have a new phone in about a month (probably a Hero, by the looks of things), and I'm almost certain that I'll flash it too.

I've decided to create a local android community site. Its still in the works (I have no idea how to use drupal / smf, so learning as I go) ... but if you guys like you can register in the mean time ... http://www.androidza.co.za ... and if any of you know SMF / Drupal, help will be appreciated.

I want to make the site an easy to use local site, with relevant material for SA, because the rest of the world always forgets about us :P.

Also want to make a petition on the site against HTC worldwide to put pressure on leaf and local telecoms to hurry up with upgrades ... but maybe at later stage :P

Edit: And if any of you have time to assist with content, then please do ... I'm doing accounting - honours, and don't have much time.

Also, if this constitutes advertising, then please remove ... but this site isn't commercial.

first off, welcome to the family... be sure to post something shocking in this thread here...

secondly... internet users don't let internet users start marketing bred "communities"...

I really have no evil intent ... I dont mind if PCF takes down the post ... I actually found this forum while trying to find local Android info ... you'll notice I created the site yesterday ... got my phone Friday :P ... I called it community for lack of a better word ... if you can think of something better, I'll change it :P ... I paid R500 out my pocket for the site, so I hope it becomes useful to someone :P

I'll introduce myself formally in the link you sent ;)

Regards

Itai

We'll consider this your once off mention of your site. Just don't do it again. Especially in front of ryanrich. He's mean.

I just wish Google Navigation was supported here :(.

On the by and by I have found that the Quick Office program is unable to launch .xlsx files which is not that bad but it would be nice if I could open my counterpart's Activity register for the day...

It did it to me too.

But this is strange: http://www.quickoffice.com/quickoffice_ ... e_android/ Supposed to support it. :?

Edit: I just realised, it's a paid app, so we are probably entitled to an upgrade but can't access it without the paid Android Market. :?

You know what? This thread is dead anyway. Can I just create the new one? I've got a HUGE post, and I'd hate to see it get lost in the mix of these pages. If I could have a new thread with me as the OP, I could update it with new links and apps and stuff.

Up to you, but if it's going to make this thread redundant, you might want to pull what's useful and ask KB if he minds having it locked. :)

I don't want my thread locked, though I will rename it to Symbian and Win Mo if you are going to make a dedicated Android App list.

Well thats why I offered to edit the first post with yours, that way it is in on the first page. I will use quote tags so you get the credit :P. However I do see your point with you being the OP so its a tough call, my personal feelings are create a new one as you said this one is dead and has been for some time...

@ Prime good idea regarding your thread & sending K/B a pm however like I said this one has been dead with no updates and we both know DJV will tinker away and update more often than K/B :P.

Yes please, new thread! I promise to whine like a little kid if the mods and admins don't approve. (And we already have Anakin on our side. In fact, we could just blame him. :D )
