Campaign against Child pornography

I seldom partake in social engineering of any kind, but this is something that I so truly believe in that i will spread this message. I am currently reading Karen Rose's Kill for me that deals with the subject, and where internet chat rooms and IM play a role in luring the young people out.
It saddens me that a tool so magnificent as the Net can be used for such evil.

I was deeply troubled when I was in Tygerberg hospital about 3 years ago. One day I saw the medicine trolley going pass my room, but nobody was pushing it! Later I discovered that a 3-year old child was pushing the medicine trolley. He was sort of a permenant resident in the neurosurgery ward, as he said that he will rather stay in hospital than go back to his mom

She hit him with a knopkierie, because her boyfriend forced het to choose between him and her son and the dumb b*tch choose the boyfriend! That was one night that I actually cried myself to sleep. It is true what Hugh Grant's character said in 91/2 weeks - "You need a license to drive, but anyone can become a parent and destroy a child for life!"

I get what jee is trying to do here, and good for her and anyone who supports her, but the campaign is to stop child PORNOGRAPHY.

The reason for this is that the internet is the single biggest medium for the creation and distribution of child pornography. It's bad and we need to stop it.

jee is posting pics of assaulted children to tug at your heart strings, and while that is working, it has shifted this thread away from child porn to old-fashioned child abuse. Something equally as deplorable, but not something an internet campaign like this is going to have as much impact on.

Child abusers do not do it for sexual thrills and they certainly don't disseminate proof of their wrong-doing on the net the way child molesters do.

Also, piss off yourself.

jamin, my absolute apologies for not creating another thread to bring up the atrocities done to children. However, child prOn is child abuse. Which is worse? To hit a child until it looks like this? Or to have sex with a child and break his/her mind (and often the child looks exactly like this.

Do yourself a favour and read about slave peddling. Yes, in this modern age. REad the stories of some of those girls and boys.
PrOn and abuse goes hand in hand. I will send you some pictures of children that were victims of "child prOn".

Jam, as ineffective as this is (referring to this thread as well as other "petitions" externally) it does raise awareness. If ONE, just ONE person was influenced in some way to make a difference on the smallest imaginable scale, it was worth it.
You first post to this thread created an immediate impression of nonchalance and a could-not-care-less attitude. So you agree to the evil, but is it asked to much to maybe, just once, show some maturity in your posts when that small voice inside you are shouting against your first reaction?

Anyway, jee and I were discussing CP and these campaigns in PM and she has asked me to share some info with all of you to atone for my sins...
This might be a no-brainer for those of you with some internet savvy, but as Sojourn said, if it helps just one person

The last one like this I took part in was all about giving people info on how to report websites with CP to the authorities. More effetive IMO than "shouting" on you blog... but lets not poke the hornets nest
Most people don't know how to use whois to get the name of the ISP (Internet Service Provider) hosting these websites. Most ISPs don't really check the content they host - you cant blame them, they aren't police. But if you send them a mail with the name of a site and complain about the content they usually check and then suspend the site.

To use whois, just google whois and the domain the website uses and you should see the whois service for that domain. For example if we search for 'whois .co.za' you will see http://co.za/whois.shtml
Put the name of the offending .co.za site in there. Lets say, for example I'm posting CP on the PCFormat forums and the other mods aren't deleting it and you want to report this....
Just put pcformat.co.za in the whois query and you will see all the info pertaining to the site, from who administers it, to who pays the domain registration fees.
From that you will see that the most effective person to mail would be the isp-admin@digiserv.co.za, since they were invoiced on the last installment on the 2nd of this month and as the name suggests it is the ISP for the site.

Most people don't know this and just email the website's supposed owner or whatever contact address they see on the website. The person at this address will just say the content was not uploaded by him and he's not responsible blah blah - that's if he even replies at all.
But mail the webhost/ISP and threaten to make a fuss and most of the time that site will be down as soon as someone reads your mail.

As horrible as seeing the pics are, it is needed.
I think that people need shock tactics to be aware. We all know that this sort of thing happens but when we never see it it is 'something that never happens to us' type of thing.


There was the recent case of the mother who murdered her children to cover up the evidence of the rape of her 5 year old daughter from her boyfriend. Seriously...WTF? is wrong with the world??

Overseas, they use shock tactics to get messages across, especially their 'drink driving' and 'speed kills' campaigns. The ads they run are horrific. Maybe we need the same sort of thing with the same messages for child abuse/porn?

Capital punishment seems too easy and quick.

There is a difference between child porn and abuse, I do agree that child porn is abuse but the pictures posted are not child porn but plain physical abuse with fists and other weapons. Last year there was a case of a baby in Johannesburg being abused by both parents, the social workers eventually took away the infant and then promptly gave the little one back. The second round of physical abuse resulted in the infant being permanently brain damaged. This baby is now in a home at our expense never to be released again, the parents? Well the parents are still ambling about, the court case is in limbo and the mother is pregnant once again. (This was reported in the media and also extensively in Noseweek, I can get references if you insist)
So what is my point? It is just that at the time and even up to today, there has been no public outcry in our beloved country, infants and young children are being raped, it cures AIDS you know, beaten, abducted and murdered each and every day. While I will take part in any effort to make my voice heard why are we not doing this daily? How many abuse centres do you support? What are you doing every day of the week? Like the million man marches and such like, the hype lasts about two days and then all reverts to normal again.
It will only be by sustained vociferous shouting in public and the media for any impact to be made. Every country is responsible for their own citizens behaviour, thus in South Africa, we need to make the difference.
