Car Audio. What to get?

Post by DeathStrike »

My two rear speakers in my car have packed up, and the front two may go sooner or later.

I was told that i should get me a pair of 7 by 10s and an amp. What do you guys think?
As if you don't know by now. I am a nooblet at this.

NOTE: I don't need a sub. I am not going for the heavy bass effects.

What brands do you think are best? i had a look at http://www.soundmatch.co.za/ they have a KENWOOD HQ718 7"X10" 320W 3WAY

http://www.soundmatch.co.za/products.asp?CID=32&SID=50

and a long list of amps that I can't decide from. http://www.soundmatch.co.za/products.asp?CID=32&SID=54

HELP PLS..

I would go for round speakers, 8" limpids, with an amp.

Yo,

I replaced all the stock speakers in my car with semi-decent Sony's.

2 4 inches for the front and 2 6 inches for the back (they fit perfectly in the dash and back doors).

I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to sound, but trust me when I say a sub pushes out bass that normal mids / little front speakers don't.

I'm getting an amp and a sub soon. I've had enough treble thank you.

yes, but won't the 7x10" give better bass than normal round ones anyway? perhaps i could get a sub later also. so what would be a good amp for both 7x10" and a sub?

7X10s will give you treble AFAIK.

I would get rear limpets if I was you.
Soon Google will know everything...including how to divide by zero :(

I would suggest you get hold of Maxxis. He will give you all the advice you need.

My setup is a nice budget SQL setup. Targa 4 channel amp with boschmann 6" coaxials on the rear sil, 5" boschmann splits in the front and a 12" Vibe sub.

The Boschmann splits in the front have a kick to them and the sub handles the deep stuff perfectly.

I am very impressed with the Boschmann range and would suggest you get hold of Maxxis and get some for your car. you won't be dissapointed.
What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.

First thing to consider is what is your budget for the upgrade?

What car is it ?

What radio is currently installed and can it accommodate the amplifier you wish to add. IE does it have RCA outputs.

Lastly what type of music do you listen to?

As for 6x9s and 7x10s and all that. They do have their place in the sound industry and they did get a bad reputation thanks to cheap crap flooding the market. A properly installed 6x9 will work really well in the rear of a vehicle if its setup correctly.

For front speaker a split system is recommended. A good coaxcial can also work really well depending on the vehicle but generally a split is just better.

Give me should if you need pricing on anything or if you want to drop by and see what can be done to the car.

Budget: not sure. ( R2k )
Car: Honda Ballade 1987
Radio: Panasonic CQ-C1300W (MP3/WMA) It does have RCA. googling

MUSIC: ROCK, R&B, (I think i just say anything. it depends on the beat and lyrics).

@ maxxis, I live in CT. Not sure where you are. If you don't mind could you recommend what i should get from the soundmatch website. There shop is around the corner so hence i decided to get the stuff from them.

Thanks.

Do round speakers sound better than oval-shaped speakers (i.e. 6x9's)? The answer is yes for most practical purposes. A round cone is more rigid than an oval-shaped one, so at higher levels, an oval-shaped speaker will distort more. The reason why there are oval-shaped speakers is because of rear deck space considerations by manufacturers. An advantage of a 6x9 speaker over a 6-inch speaker is that it has a bigger area, so it will move higher air volume, producing more bass.

the distortion of an oval speaker will lead to a shorter life span.

if you can, go for rounds in the form of splits, with a sub. this will give you the best performance. just make sure that what ever you choose, is good quality, and works well for your type of music.
