I have never smoked but I believe it gets better. I am very proud of you - it is a worthwhile thing to do. You could get those nicotine patches - I hear they do help.

Yeah if you're still not smoking after a month you should be fine...

I never had cravings. I smoked for like 8 years every day, then just stopped cold turkey and din't have any cravings at all. Now I still have the occasional cigarette, if I'm out with friends and the beer is flowing, hehe, but during the week and when I'm training nadda... So moral is, it's different for different folks...

The doctors say 3 months, but they are liars.
I am sorry to say, but it never ever stops.

I have quit 3 times.

1st time lasted 2 months

2nd time lasted 8 months

3 time lasted 6 months.

The secret is simple. Never ever ever have another drag, cos thats what gets you. Like on my second try, 8 months had passed, was at a party, and I though, just one drag and I will be fine. Within 2 weeks I was back to half a pack a day.

Sure the craving does get easier, but you will forever have to be vigilant not to fall prey to temptation.

Stopped smoking about 5 or 6 years ago.

The Monday I was a smoker... the Tuesday I stopped.
Yes it is that simple.
Try it.

After 8 or 9 years of smoking, I also stopped cold turkey. The cravings are bad in the first month but it surely gets better. Food tastes better, you can smell things again (not always a good thing) etc. It's almost 18 months later and I get the occasional feeling of "this will be a good time to have a smoke" but it only lasts for a split second. I had a few drags of a cigar when a cousin was born, but I felt like a wet ashtray afterwards.

Reward yourself after x amount of time; after a week, spoil yourself to an ice-cream / movie etc. Then at least you won't feel "cheated" for quitting. You're getting something in return for quitting.

lol I know how hard it is to give something up (and no I am not referring to meat) - I really admire you all for being able to do it. Even those who have one now and again - at least you broke the addiction.

I've always wanted to start smoking just so I could quit. Really though I'm to cheap to spend money on something that I would literally be burning up. Sorry I realise that this comment is highly irrelevant. Good luck though.

Not really irrelevant.

I only now realize how much i'm being controlled by a stupid cigarette.

When i'm going somewhere i have this silly rime i say in my head to make sure i dont forget something
Its 4 things 'Car keys, Wallet , Lighter and cigarettes' i still do it.

When i get into my car , i wind the window down so that i can smoke.
After i ate i want to smoke, when i bored i want to smoke, I occasionally look forward to smoke before i start doing something
or when i'm done with something.

I'm glad ive stopped. i probably spend R600 on cigarettes

I admire your courage...I myself have been smoking for almost 15 years (started when I was like 10 or so) and I've quit 4 times the first 3 times was easy coz I wasnt really addicted but when I started smoking a half a pack a day I tried again after my son was born and it lasted a month, I found myself being moody and cranky all the time so I just started again...i wish it was as easy for me as it was for others.

hmm a good way to stop, is to prove others they wrong. ppl said to me im addicted to hubbly cause i smoked it 3 times a day, and that id never stop. so to prove them wrong, i stopped, havent smoked in about a month. true, its hubbly, but still, u can get addicted to that.
when in doubt, paddle out... ;)
