Pardon my ignorance... but WTH is a thread necro ?
Sounds diirrty and very Jamin's-playground-like...still don't know what it is tho... now people are temp-banned for it and I still don't know.

It's when a 3-year-old dead thread is revived and spammed for no reason.

When you reply to a thread that has been dead for ages, instead of creating a new one.

I do believe you can necro if you have something valid and new to add which can chnage the conversation/debate, or at least I thought you could, as long as it's not spam of course.

Cannot see the harm in this if the old thread is actually relevant to the new post..., s'pose it's bad if you just do it to spam.
Funny thing... there used to be a drive at some point where people would create new threads and then the thread got locked because "People should use the search function, that topic was discussed <link-over here-link>".

My guess is it was spamming and not relevant.

i think that the concept is retarded because when you start a new thread you get a hundred replies stating you should use the search function before starting the new thread - and if you want to contribute a point to a thread that already existed then you are accused of necro'ing it

so you are damned if you and damned if you dont - its all a retarded circle if you ask me

sorry - just noticed that the poster above me just more-or-less said the same thing but i had to say it in my way

On the note of necroing, I believe that the FEAR thread was wrongly locked.

I agree - I thought it was a useful thread. Not one I would post in as I don't play - but the game may take off again.

I agree. Locking it and forcing us to make a new thread when the game pics up again is hasty!

Monty, um - a hint about human nature. If you want someone to do something for you - calling something they did "stupid" is not a good move. "Hasty" would perhaps be a better option?

What is the difference between a temp ban and a warning. I can't seem to find it in the rules.

A warning won't mean you're banned, you can still post and stuff, but I think your avvie rights are taken away or something.

Well until Ron figures out WTF is wrong with the forum/ Opera Mini, I can't quote and reply from my cell phone.

I Pm'd Lance and asked him to unlock it, but seeing as several of the admins on this forum never answer their PM's, let alone read them... I discovered I had at least 2 PM's to jee from 2 years back, still sitting in my outbox I've deleted them now

He posted twice. If that counts as spamming, then I fail to understand why 80% of the threads on this forums haven't been locked yet.

Double-standards, I call it.

I really would not aggravate the situation by complaining. Explain things to Ronny and he will unlock the thread. Even Maxxis or RRF would, if you asked nicely. And they all answer their PMs.

Its garbage, its not the first time a mod or admin has failed to read the thread and has either posted a totally inappropriate reply or locked the thread as a result.
