Hi Recently my car's altinator broke.
I was a bosch , the metal casing some how cracked and when i took the adjustment screw out
the whole thing fell appart and part of the altinater was still bolted on to the car.
So i replaced it with a different altinator, it costed more than the bosch, R950 Bucks.
But this altinator has a plastic fan where the bosch had a metal fan around the shaft.
This fan is obviously there to blow onto the windings of the altinator it self.
Do you think if i remove the fan, the altinator will overheat ?
It makes a stupid whistling noise from about 3000-5000 RPM.
It literally sounds like a turbo or more like a Mercedes kompressor, without the sound of dumping air.
Some people has even asked me if i have a trubo or some kind of kompressor installed.
And some has asked me "whats wrong with your car?"
The previous altinator, (I have no idea how this happend)

Re: Altinator Fan
Can you replace the plastic one with the steel one from the previous Bosch?
I wouldn't remove it, it's there for a reason.

Re: Altinator Fan
Fan is there for a reason!
it might be the brushes bedding in, give the noise time. It could also be due to electrical interference, in which case something is not connected properly, or sheiled properly, or you need a filter somewhere.
what did you replace it with? Will look at the pics of damaged alternator and see if i can tell you why it broke when i'm home.
oh, and alternators aren't cheap. R900 sounds about right.
