+1Golden Orb Weaver Spider
They are here in RSA. I used to go camping at a place called Kosi bay which had them.
Their thread is so strong it can catch birds and it's a lovely thing to see a huge web in the sun.
Amazing.
Soon Google will know everything...including how to divide by zero

And in case any one is wondering, their bites are not poisonous to humans.

Re: When bird meets spider...
I get that feeling too.
Re: When bird meets spider...
Sigh i had an orb weaver like that fall on me on campus (as big as a CD with legs spread) they a f'ing cheeky it chased me like almost 40 meters cause i walked into a supporting thread of its web and its web was covering the roof of the entrance. Plus it had eggs on its web thats why it was so aggressive (the baby spiders are grey and huge ). That was like a momment out of the movie arachnaphobia.
Oh and to just a small note they fast like cockroaches when they run
So lucky it didnt bite me never thought i could run that fast too

Re: When bird meets spider...
I would have died - just there. Become prey for the beast. I am going to have nightmares now.
I have been asked to photograph some tarantulas for a shop in my area. Not sure I can - the lizards and the snake will be a piece of cake. But those arachnids....... not so sure.
