Michiko to Hatchin (Weekly Episodic Review)

Post by larch »

Michiko is a free willed “sexy diva” who has been imprisoned for a as of yet unknown crime. In the process of escaping from a supposedly inescapable prison, she manages to trash the prison injure several guards and shoot down a helicopter while making her escape from the prison.

Image

Hatchin is a girl living with foster parents who use her to get money from foster care and spends the money on luxury items for themselves, instead of using it for Hatchin. Not the mention the very abusive step sister and step brother, who makes her life a living hell each and every day while doing the house chores.

Image

After Michiko escapes from prison what is the first thing she does? Rob a bank of course well that would be the second thing since the first thing she did when she got into town was steal some food from a old man. Michiko uses the money she got from the bank robbery to pimp herself out and buy a Vespa scooter.

Image

She makes a couple of phone calls one of them is to the house where Hatchin lives. Hatchin’s foster mother picks up the phone and is told strait off the bat by Michiko that she would be coming to come pickup her child the very next day. Can it be that Michiko is Hatchin’s real mother or is there some other motive for her coming to pickup her up?

Image

Now being the greedy step parents that they are they of course think that Michiko is only after the church’s humor and the money that they get from child welfare, greedy ****. But in fact that’s far from the truth though we still haven’t actually found out the reason for Muchiko’s actions. In any case the good old church folk decide to arm and prepared themselves for what is about to happen.

Image

Unfortunately for the holy man and his church shotgun he did not expect Michiko too be coming through the living room window on her Vespa scooter. It also seems he was not well versed in the art of using one of dem shotguns properly which only added the chaos that ensued. And Hatchin finally got her wish as someone came to rescue her from the hell she was living in. And so Michiko & Hatchin’s adventure begins.

Image

Eh I did not honestly expect to enjoy the first episode as much as I did, I think it comes down to the animation style and the music. It is still early days to be judging the show on the story since its only the first episode. So I will definitely be following this series for a couple of episodes to see how it turns out, as it has me very intrigued thus far.

Image

If you enjoyed shows like Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop and Ergo Proxy then I suggest you give this show a try as it contains the very same elements that made those shows fun and enjoyable to watch. Not to mention the great art work and musical score that makes up this show.

Image

On a side note I haven’t seem something as disturbing as the way Hatchin’s step sister and step brother bullied and abused her. Well not since Elfen Lied when the kids killed the little dog that Lucy found, and she exacts her revenge on them after wards. It really got my **** blood boiling the way she got treated by her step parents and siblings.

I think im going to give this a miss, doesnt seem like my type of series :)

For some reason, some of the animation in the last picture with the iron.etc reminds me a bit of the animation style used by Studio Ghibli...

Hmm, I think you misunderstood me or I dont get it :?

Im not judging the series off that single frame ;) Well, im judging it by the various frames as well as your little summary :P
Although I should rather just watch the episode...but I highly doubt it would be an anime series for me! :D Although there is always the possibility of me being incorrect.

Remember the show “Michiko to Hatchin” I did a first impression on about a month ago? Well the second episode was released yesterday and after watching it, I decided I will be blogging about this anime series on a regular basis. Why you ask, well because there is something really intriguing about this show, not to mention the fact that I have thoroughly enjoy the two episodes that has been released so far. If you missed my first impression of the show it can be found here: http://larcho.wordpress.com/2008/10/18/ ... pressions/

Image

Episode two of Michiko to Hatchin starts off with a flashback showing what seems the be a very young version of Michiko, handcuffed in the back of a police van being transported too Diamandra Penitentiary a maximum security prison for violent criminals. What were the crimes she committed you may ask? Well it seems Michiko attacked a well known crime syndicate called “Fantasma".

Image

It seems our little Michiko was quit the trouble maker even 12 years back, and that she had a bit of a attitude problem. Not that she has one now but she soon finds out that prison is not such a fun place to be. But this only seems to make her stronger when faced with adverse circumstances. On a side note it seems the person who captured her and runs the prison is a old childhood.

Michiko to Hatchin Weekly review

Post by larch »

Episode 3 of Michiko to Hatchin starts off in which seems to be a seaside town, after the escaped in the last episode Michiko and Hatchin are in this sea side town looking for her ex boyfriend, and who seems to be Hatchin’s dad . Michiko has taken desperate measures in finding her ex boyfriend, and has asked the help of the local con artist I mean fortuneteller.

Image

And as always Hatchin is not impressed with Michiko’s schemes as she once again sports that “Christ you crazy woman what the **** are you doing” look. Not to mention the fact that Hatchin can see right through the old ladies con and this shows on her face. While Michiko on the other hand is eating up every word the old lady is telling her. Maybe the reason behind this is that Michiko is still desperately in love with her ex boyfriend and refuses to let go.

Image

So after a big amount of fan fair that goes with the art of conning people, I mean telling their fortunes the old lady uses all her skills as a fortuneteller to predict Michiko’s future and of course tell her what she wanted to know and gives Hatchin a warning that she must watch out for her left leg and that she will die. This of course upsets Hatchin greatly who proceeds to buy a gem stone and gods nail clippings, as good luck charms for herself and Hatchin.

After the last episode Michiko and Hatchin still find themselves in the same city after the unsuccessful hunt for her ex boyfriend. But it seems Michiko has given up the hunt and now is drowning her sorrows at a local strip club of all places, while Hatchin is working at the local Chinese restaurant. The show starts off with Michiko in a drunken stooper picking a fight with a local stripper, over who has a bigger set of ( . Y . )…

Image

Of course Pepe notices Michiko. I doubt anyone would miss a screaming drunk woman who is throwing you a **** you sign while groping her own breasts. But anyway after the show Michiko stumbles to the bathroom to take a puke I guess, when she runs into the stripper who proceeds to kick her drunken bottom. And of course her being totally drunk means she cant throw a punch in a strait line.

Image

The next morning we see a hung over Michiko having breakfast at the Chinese store that Hatchin is working at, looking like crap after drowning her sorrows the previous evening. As she is about to leave a car stops in front of the restaurant , and the punks from the previous episode whose asses she kicked jumps out and holds her up with a gun, telling her to come with them. And of course not wanting to make a scene she goes along with them, much to the dismay of Hatchin.

Episode five of Michiko to Hatchin kicks off with a flash back 12 years ago in what seems to be the city that Michiko grew up in. Michiko seems the be looking for Cyril the leader of the local gang called “Fantasma”, as they are holding two members of a apposing gang “Monstro” hostage. Michiko even goes as far as attacking Cyril the leader in broad daylight. But things go wrong as she is outnumbered heavily and proceeds to get her bottom kicked by Cyril who tells her to leave before he kills her.

Image

We cut back to the present (rainy) day as the search continues for Michiko’s boyfriend (Hiroshi), she decides to pay some old friends from her past a visit, one of them isn’t to chuffed at seeing her and heads for the hills as soon as he sees her. But the second friend, who seems to have a few fruit short of a full salad, welcomes her with open arms. He seems to be really happy seeing Michiko for the first time in years, a totally different reaction than what she was expecting by the expression on her face.

Image

Michiko tells her friends that she is looking for Satoshi, but they inform her that things have changed after all these years. And that Monstro has become a big crime organization with Satoshi as their leader, which Michiko seems to know about. They also inform her that Satoshi is dead which of course she denies stating that he is still alive and kicking somewhere in the city. Even though he was involved in the bus explosion we saw in the first episode of the show.

So episode 7 is the second part of the two part arch entitled “The Fools Yearning”. Episode 7 starts off with a very pissed off Michiko discovering the message left by Monstro on her wall and with no Hatchin in sight. We cut back to Hatchin who seems to have woken up and has been put some kind of holding pen only to find out she is sharing it with a slobbering bull called “Roman the 4th.” Who then proceeds to slobber all over her.

Image

The person that Michiko visits after Hatchin’s disappearance is the old hag who runs the local orphanage, who seems to be drinking at the local bar in the middle of the day while watching her favorite sport of bull fighting. At this point Michiko is pissing fire and brimstone, and “tries” to beat the crap out of the old hag. But she kicks Michiko’s bottom using a bottle of booze and a couple of blows to the face. The old hag then asks Michiko the reason why she entrusted Hatchin to her to which she replies because I thought I could trust you. This answer seems to have fazed the old lady, who watches while Michiko leaves the bar.

Image

We then cut back to a flashback from the time when Michiko was a orphan at the old hags orphanage. Seems she was left in the care of the old hag when her parents left her there, and even at such a young ages she was a trouble maker. As the flashback demonstrates when she tries to steal the orphanages money. The old hag catches her in the act of course, and this only adds to the young Michiko’s frustration at being an orphan and being powerless. But it seems the old hag does have a heart as we see her going after one of the orphanage kids and getting them out of trouble.

It seems after episode six Michiko somehow managed to trash her vespa scooter and it will take 2 to 3 days to get it fixed, so Michiko and Michiko decided to book themselves in at a local hotel. While booking them in Michiko meets a charismatic young man who offers her a light and cigarette, this throws off Michiko completely who seems totally infatuated by this young man.Seems Hatchin is a dirty girl because right before bedtime Michiko asks Hatchin when she last had a bath and she replies “5 days ago” and of course like always they start fighting over the issue.

Image

The next day Michiko gives Hatchin some money to go buy some shampoo and soap so they can take a shower. But like always it seems trouble follows Hatchin around. While on her way to one of the shops to go buy shampoo and soap Hatchin gets attack by some local “street kids” who manages to steal her shoes, money and the rowing boat she was using to go the shops afterwards being thrown overboard into the river. While all this was happening to Hatchin, Michiko was looking for a beauty parlor, and coincidently she meets the strange young man at this beauty parlor.

So after being side tracked in the last episode Michiko and Hatchin heads to the city of Osso as rumors have it that Satoshi is in the city, the one person that Hatchin wants to meet. But it seems that Hatchin is unhappy with the way Michiko does things, and as always this leads to a fight and screaming match between the two of them. After booking in at a local hotel Michiko decides to leave Hatchin behind and go look for clues to find out the whereabouts of Satoshi, as she leaves she tells Hatchin not to go outside not like she will listen to Michiko anyway.

Image

We cut to a bunch of loud mouth punks and their leader who seems to be Satoshi no less; they seem to be extorting money out of some poor fellow at a casino.Meanwhile Michiko is sitting at a local bar having a couple of drinks and asking the waiter if he might know the whereabouts of this Satoshi person. While having a drink she notices someone walk past the bar, she seems shocked and surprised at the same time when she first notices him. Is he somehow related to Michiko’s past?

Episode 9 of Michiko to Hatchin is all about our little Hatchin who decided to leave behind Michiko after episode 8 and run away from her problems she was having. Hatchin heard about a virgin Maria statue that cries blood and if you make a wish there it will come true, so she spent her last money on some silly map that shows her how to get there. But in the end she was just ripped off loosing the last of her cash she could have used on food and other necessities. Guess that would not have happened if Michiko was still around to help her.

Image

Seems she spent the night on a local park bench, but due to the mosquitoes and noise she did not get much sleep. And the little black girl poking her in the ear isn’t helping either as she wakes up with a fright. To find said girl smiling at her and then she notices what seems to be her now ex boyfriend hiding behind a tree not far from them. It looks like this girl wants to get rid of her ex boyfriend. So she tells him that Hatchin is her new boyfriend and that they are dating. After making their getaway from the ex boyfriend who chases them on the bike through the city they hide in a nearby ally way.
