I've used this distro for the past 5 months, and it rocks!
My first positive experience with Linux.
I'm using it right now to type this.

I love it because:
- it has out-of-the-box multimedia support, such as MP3, XviD, DVDs, etc.
- it is *very* fast and stable (I take back what I said about Linux being slow!)
- it has quite a bit of software, but isn't bloated.
- it allows me to autologin as root (yeah yeah I know...)
- all hardware is detected and working 100%
- it is easy to use!
- an overall pleasant experience.
* Linux in general has its quirks, so I did have some issues *

For my university studies (thank god it's over now!!!!), I was advised to use Fedora, since this is what the computer science building ran.
Pretty much everyone hated Fedora - and this gave Linux a bad reputation, especially for first year students who would be exposed to it for the first time.
Then I showed them PCLOS.....

PCLOS would be ideal for the average user, because it so closely resembles a Windows box.
I think the best selling point is the multimedia capabilities. Many people expect their MP3's, DVD's and so on to work - if it doesn't then they dismiss Linux as trash (and I've seen a friend actually throw the disc in the trash).
The Free Software Foundation can hurl their "non-free" insults at PCLOS until they go blue in the face - the bottom line is that users WANT proprietary stuff like MP3 and they don't give a toss about open source.


My second choice would probably be Ubuntu, but that has sparse software, requiring me to download - I haven't downloaded much with PCLOS. And PCLOS installs and starts up quicker too.
This distro is gaining a LOT of popularity - it could surpass Ubuntu, who knows??

Its all about what you want from a distro. For desktop I prefer SuSe and for server I love my ubuntu server edition. For a desktop replacement PCLinuxOS may be an option. but for servers, a total clean install, with a #apt-get update and # apt-get install * will be hard to replace.

I have three HDD's,
1x XP
1x Vista
1x PCLOS
... Igot my cellphone as a modem to work within 3 minutes of fighting with the linux box.. and I know about jack *nothing* about Linux

Good to hear, I think I will download the Gnome version at work today and give it a install tonight. Seems like a very user friendly distro. Lets see if its as powerful as Ubuntu though...

Its been the number one distro at www.distrowatch.com for awhile now... Ive always wanted to give it a go, but will wait for 2008.

Oh right, my bad...
Initially it was KDE, the community later developed a GNOME version.

Yeah me too!
In Windows, I would have to install the Sony Ericsson PC Suite. Here, I don't have to do that at all.
My phone is detected in one go and is available immediately for use.

If this distro is truelly as user friendly as it states, with as little command line interface, and similar to a Windows OS, it could seriously pull more people over to Linux

My download will be finished in a couple minutes, I dont mind sending it out to people. If you guys want I can download the KDE kernal aswel and send that off
Im sure you guys know the drill by now:

PCLinuxOS looks a bit kiddie like to me...

Let me know how it goes though compared to Ubuntu, g0ldback.

Thats the word I was looking for. Kinda like a install and go distro, which can be cool, but those can lack in the power department a little if you know what I mean..

I forgot to bring the iso home tonight, but I'll burn it tomorrow and install it sometime this week. Then I'll post screenies and give my opinion on it.
One thing I can tell from this distro, is it can bring some Windows users over to the Linux enviroment, whether it be Gnome or KDE. From then they can move away from the easier distros and move over to Fedora Core, Gentoo or Ubuntu. These through and through Windows fan boi's need some adjusting

I initially installed it on a VM after it took the number one spot on distrowatch from Ubuntu.

I also think its good.....but like ryanrich, I think it looks a bit kiddie (splash screens are greatt though!)....
