Hi All ! How are you ?

I have a Pentium 4 Socket 478 3.0 Ghz Processor.

When in boots in Dos it show 3.0 Ghz

And in Windows when i right click my Computer and hit Properties it shows Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz -- and the 2.00 Ghz.

I have used CPUz and it shows my proccessor is a 3.0 Ghz but in all my games it shows as 2.0 ghz ?

Is it Possible that Jumpers on my Motherboard are restricting my CPU Speed - Or how do i make it run at its full capacity.

My buddy as a Intel Pentium 2.80 (Socket 478 and it show on his Properties - 2.80 / 2.80

Please help me find the solution to this problem ?

Thanks
Hay

What motherboard do you have?

What's the (stock) FSB of that mobo?

FSB of Mobo = 533/800

Motherboard name : MB661FX V2.0

Brand Name No Clue ?

Is the fsb running @ 800?

If so, try a bios update.

I had a friend once in a similar position, cpu ran @ 1.6 instead of 2.4ghz (or something similar anyway), it was due to the mobo's fsb. The way he fixed it to run @ 2.4 was to OC it :)

If you reread his first post , he said that he had already tried it.

The 661FX is a ECS MBD - try updating the BIOS to latest available version
I had the same thing where a customer moaned about selling him a slower / wrong CPU

What are the options of his Motherboard using Cool/Quiet and those to throttle his CPU back to 2ghz? Games will show 3 ghz as his PC then boosts itself for the extra strain again...

Just a thought, use it, dont use it...

This might be the case - I have a P4 630, which runs (at stock mobo settings) at 2.8Ghz.....only when there is a load on the system, does it go to the full 3.0Ghz ..... Its a setting in the BIOS... (something like Cool & Quiet)....

You probably just need to update the microcode in your BIOS. Works most of the time :)

On intel CPU's it's not called Cool & Quiet, that's AMD tech.

Yep, it's called speedstep.
