You on drugs? VW and Volvo has nothing to do with each other. But most of the ST's engine is indeed Volvo derived, but it has had a few components uprated and redesigned so they could turbo it and still have it be reliable.Mow wrote:Because the ford ST and Vw engines ( golf GTI ) I used my comparison are all designed by Volvo.
To you and Seether, because Ford owns Volvo they can use and share whatever they want. Originally it was planned to use the S40's AWD as well for the ST,but that plan was shelved to use it on the new Focus RS which Ford fans have been anxiously waiting for. Though Ford is keeping quiet about progress on it.
This RS will be available in one of three V6 AWD models if it goes to production. There would be a 3.5 N/A V6, 3.5 Low pressure Turbo and a 3.2 High pressure Turbo.
Another interesting thing, Ford, Renault and Peugeot (I think) shares a small Common rail Diesel engine the designed together. The VW Sharan and Ford Galaxy share the same design as both companies collaborated on the project. Last year GM and Ford signed a Transmission development deal which will benefit both companies. So yeah, all of the world's car manufacturers are working together on different levels.
