Setting up a Vista PC on a XP pro network , HOW ???

Ok, there is one Vista Business 32bit PC that I need to get on to a Windows XP network, with full file share and visability both ways. And I tried GOOGLE, nothing I got there was of much help. there was the one , but I do not want to pay $39 for a how to guide .. ANY help would be apreciated...

im not sure i follow, ive got a vista pc and it worked communicating with xp machines, basically the same as xp, set he ip range to be the same, set the file sharing, should work fine..thats how i got my one working. i didnt notice some option when you right click the network icon then choose connect to, and it will show you a list of the networks that it has recognised which it is connected to.

and pinging them brings up nothing? does the xp machine see the vista one, or does it not work both ways, also try pinging the vista pc from the xp one.

make sure the type of network is set to public - i'm not sure where in the network properties page it is, but it's there...

I got it, the XP units need to install a patch..

I've tried networking my Moms PC (with XP) and my machine (when I was still using Vista) and I had to create a network on the XP machine and connect with the Vista. Still didnt work 100% :?

Frigging Microsoft, got no compatibility with their OS's :twisted:

NO!!! that will hide vista from the network. it must be set to private. believe me. i have my vista pc networked with my xp laptop and my brothers xp pro machine
