Microsoft Office 2004 MAC serial problem

Hi guys,

I hope there is someone that can help me out. I have Microsoft Office 2004 installed on my MAC. I recently bought myself a new G5, and so I installed Office 2004 on it, but because I use my 2 macs on my own personal netword at home, the serial numbers clash, and it says that there are already a computer with the same Serial assigned on the network, so now I want to change one of them's serials. How do I do that? Each time I re-install office, it uses the old serial, so is there any way that I can go and simply change the serial number? I have another serial, but how do I change the serial on Office 2004? Does anyone maybe know what file and where the file is so I can go and edit somewhere and change the serial?

If you have two serials, why not just use the unused one on the new G5?

In application > Microsoft Office 2004 > Additional Tools> Remove office.

Run that utility to completely remove office, then re-boot and re-install!

:)

It will then install as if it is the first time! ie. it will ask you for you details and serial!

We have nine iMacs here and i have to that everytime someone leaves and someone else joins!

The first time I just copied Office from the one mac to the other, and did not use the cd. When it started for the first time, it registers itself on the new machine but with the other one's serial. Now, earch time I remove office, and reinstall it, it keeps using the old serial, because it is stored somewhere and I dont know where.

I can't find my Office CD, so all I can do is to copy the files from the one to the other. It then does not ask me for a serial, it just uses the one which it was installed with. See my problem? =)

What version of Office do you have?

I think it be that black one with the white skull on it...

Dude - If you cant get the serial changed on the G5, just uninstall your office on the OTHER system and reinstall it with another serial... Maybe even consider a format, as that is the option you seem to have left...

Slasher, see one of my previous posts... "I can't find my Office CD, so all I can do is to copy the files from the one to the other.".. hence, my problem... I need to change the serial, thats why I started this topic, as formatting is not an option. I know in Windows you can just climb into regedit and change the serial there, but I am not that clued up on the mac stuffs.

Then I doubt you will have much luck.

This might be of great assistance, but other than that, I can not help you. Also do not know much about MAC's from the little I have worked with them...

Why did you buy two though?

Considering you have 2 serials for Office, that means you have lost TWO office CD's? Not saying you are ... but it sounds AWFULLY convenient...

I guessed that! :)

I meant is it student and teacher edition or just plain standard edition?

EDIT: A quick Google finds this
