Bullet proof film

Post by cYcLIc »

Yo. I want to put bullet proof film on my car windows, so I just want to know if anyone here has it or knows of anyone who has it so I know what to expect and maybe they could recommend a place too. I already have a place that does it, but they don't have samples too show me how it will look when on my windows.

 No. I just want to be able to drive comfortable at night...and any other time of the day for that matter. Besides, it's just bullet proof film, not bullet proof windows. It will stop the slug, but it won't cost an arm and a leg.

I haven't seen it on a car yet, but I know there is a place in Witbank that does it too.

How sure are you that it stops a bullet? Don't know much about guns and things but flak jackets have trouble stopping bullets - how good would a clear piece of film be? Can you explain the science to me. Look at armored cars and how thick the glass has to be to be bullet proof. Just does not make sense. Could be the dumb blonde talking again today.

It actually does work Tribble...

It stops certain lower velocity bullets such as that from a common 9 mm... It does so only once or twice though, and that in differing spots...

Armored Cars have to be with those thick windows due to the fact that it can stop AK47 bullets that pack a punch, numerous times in the same area.

cyclic - What is this going to cost you to have done mate?

It might stop or slow low calibre 9mm slugs, but I sure as heck wouldn't have any faith in it considering the expense of real balistics proof surfaces.

thats why I said 9mm slugs... It has more of an advantage against smash and grab attempts than most other things...

people with so little taste as to buy a BMW 3 series or a Golf deserve a 9mm slug to the temple.

I see you have designs on being James Bond  Why do you not like those cars - ok the Golf I can see - but the BMW?

And that cling film can look awful if not put on correctly.

but the BMW
bmw drivers have kind of stigma about them.....that they are idiots....i have not seen much on the roads to change my mind about that....i know, its prejudice and judgemental, but its there.......

personally i am an audi fan.....this is going off topic though.....wouldn't say no to an m series though...

firstly, the Golf. Golf's look like blobs. they look like some one carved a boulder into an abstract vision of a ... stone. They lack any real creativity in their design.

The BMW's lost all their appeal when they started being designed by an American. The 5 series is regarded as one of the ugliest cars in the world. The 3 series is just the uglier younger brother. The only reason I let the 7 series get away with its "smacked in the face with a sledge hammer" looks is cause its so expensive that any one with any sense would rather buy a Merc before they waste their hard earned cash on a 7 series.

People who buy Golf's and BMW's only buy them cause everyone else buys them.

Buy a Lexus, a Merc, a Renault, a Peugot (terrible after sales service), a Citroen (made with bubble gum cause bolts were too expensive), with the free market system if you have money then you can buy any vehicle you can find on the net, order from overseas.

One day I will die. and you know how I will die. It will be in a head on with a 5 series due to the fact that I went mad at the sheer uglyness of the vehicle.

how..... magnamonious.

i'm sure the bmw marketing department breathed a sigh of relief when they discovered they'd been offered a stay of execution  ..

@Pino: some interesting vids... only thing is, they don't show what happens when a projectile attempts to exit the vehicle at high velocity... :?:

And the guy in the 5 series will get out of the car unscathed wondering if he just drove over a small animal or perhaps a brick.

I have bullet resistant film on my car (Audi A4). It's 275 micron as far as I remember. Normal smash and grab is 100 micron, so it's quite a bit thicker.

I had it done at a place called Defence Concepts. I have seen demonstrations of various products from various companies, including the Llumar, and the product from Defence Concepts is definitely the best available in SA at the moment. It's imported from Germany, and carries a 10 year guarantee.

It was around R4000 incl. VAT but is worth it to me driving around in this country...

Perfect and thats not too far from home either. At that price i think my parents will do their cars too. Initially quoted at R6500, but I prefer to use a specialist company.
