Post by larch »

About:

Saikano (Saishū Heiki Kanojo) She, the Ultimate Weapon or (My Girlfriend, the Ultimate Weapon) is a manga and anime series by Shin Takahashi, creator of Iihito and Kimi no Kakera. Saikano was originally serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine. The plot is about two adolescents who fall in love during a war. t was later adapted into an animated 13 episode series and later a 2 part OVA series.

Synopsis:

Shuji is a high school student in Hokkaidō who is in the same class as a certain girl he likes. Chise who has had a crush on him for awhile declares her love for Shuji, at the beginning of the movie. However, Chise is very shy and Shuji is insensitive. Neither know how to express their feelings very well, but they do harbor feelings for each other as the movie progresses there relationship deepens.

One day, while Shuji is shopping for a gift for Chise unknown bombers attack the city in an air raid on the city. He and his friends run for cover, while they run they notice a fast and small flying object shooting down the enemy bombers. Separated from his friends, Shuji wanders through the destroyed city, where he stumbles upon Chise ….

Review:

Although any story about war, sadness, betrayal and anger is sad. The intensity of the pain and the sadness which the story tries to emit is so intense and overwhelming that you may find it more ridiculous and over the top instead of sad.

Grave of the Fireflies preached about the horrors of war, and the toll it takes on non-combatants. Saikano is more about the sheer pointlessness of war. How the randomness of the violence can make which side you`re fighting on seem inconsequential, and how the human instinct to survive at all costs will eventually bring about our extinction.

Looks like something that would be up my road. But kinda has a childish look to it. Oh well, I don't understand anything there as it is.

On a similar note, am currently playing Tales of the Abyss. Fantastic!

Maybe I should start a thread about Jap games, etc.
Hmm... for some reason, I doubt many of people here haven't even heard of these games.
