Agree with what ur saying Vice but remember that Super pi isnt multi threaded and doesnt gain anything from running it with a quad core cpu. So considering the extra 2 cores & heat with a quad - its quite a bit easier using a dual core as MOST of the time you can overclock it higher than a quad on air. Of course it depends on models etc. but imo in this case...your E6420 is easier to clock than his Q6600 on air...

I'm pretty sure my E6420 had better times than that at stock...need to check at home first...but even so...a Q6600 should hit 3.6 with not too many issues

If I remember correctly, my e6600 @ stock got 20s on super pi but it was awhile back & cant really remember

Ya...thats why I need to check...cos I've been running my E8400 which awesome on SPi

edit just check superpi times on my work machine (E6600) and getting 19.331s on a machine so badly in need of a reload...so yeah...I think you're right...in the 20's is good for a stock e6420

My problem is my mobo, can't go over 312 fsb before lockups and bsod's.

Had the voltage up to 1.4v even tried locking the ram at 800 and tried setting it at 667.

Any help?

I presume you have a G0?

bsods lockups might point towards ram or temps

Best bet is to try a 1:1 divider and upping the ram to say 2.0v if you have a G0 then getting 400fsb on stock vcore should be fairly easy.It would depend on vdroop.Check what your current vdroop is and counter by upping the vcore little by little till you get it stable.

Then again my bet is on the ram not getting enough juice.

Finally broke 10s, 9.719s. This was on air. And some fun to come in the next week Didn't really care about tweaks, took the American principle of more is better and ran with it.

I got it to post at 330fsb, i upped the cpu voltage to 1.5v, and ram to 2.1v. I also upped the chipset volts and locked the pci freq at 101mhz. I could then run super pi for the time in my sig, but 3dMark brought it to a crash. My RAM doesn't like going over 900mhz.

I think the mobo isn't good enough even though I've read in a review that they got it to 377fsb.

Hey maybe oc'ing isn't for me.

Oh ya, off topic though, speedfan shows that my temp 3 is waayy out of hand, 89 deg at idle to be exact.

Everest doesn't show any temp that high though.

I worked out that temp 1 is my cpu, temp 2 is system, so I'm stumped at what 3 is. Chipset?

Played with an ubuntu live CD earlier, sommer did a superpi to check the speed. Everything stock(I'm not an overclocker)

Don't have any screenshots to prove it but I'm hitting 8.230 seconds on 1M. Using a i7 2600K @ 4635 mhz

7.203 on H20



horrible CPU for competitive clocking.

Slightly better CPU for benching.

2600k 5.5ghz + Gigabyte UD3R Corsair XMS3 1600C9 @ 1600 7-10-7-24 T1 Crappy ram that.



UD3R feels better for clocking than the P8P67 Evo. I like the old school bios. navigates quicker.

next time a clean OS instal and maybe better memory. Booted once at X56 multi. Think DICE is too cold for the CPU.

I finally broke the 8 second mark. I got 7.544s at 4.8 ghz. Happy with that clock:). Now I need a WC system and I'll stress it!

In a couple year's time we'll be running SuperPi so fast we'll break the time-space continuum.

@R3D how is your voltage so low at 5.5ghz? Oh and please disregard my previous post of 7.544,its 7.844 @ 4.8ghz. I was playing around and got 7.650 @ 4.9ghz

Gigabyte Boards display like that in CPUZ. that voltage is VTT. Vcore was 1.62v
