I forgot all about those cheap brands, they always have some sort of a problem. I have seen at least 7 Telefunken's with the same problem, they all have black lines through parts of the screen

Yeah Telefunken used to make decent enough CRT's back in the 80's/90's but I've yet to see a good LCD from them. As soon as said friend turned theirs on I saw this huge red spot on the left which looks huge considering it isn't very hi-res either...

I see on Landmark they also have an Asus 27-inch LED. Bit more expensive, but it has double the DC ratio, 10,000,000:1 compared to the Samsung's 5,000,000:1. Maybe worth checking out?

Just wish someone had both of them on display. I love Asus but never owned one of their lcd's. Hopefully Incredible gets the 27" Samsung Led, so I can compare it to the normal 27" Lcd I have, in store .

Yeah, viewing two screens side by side is the best way, but almost never possible to do.

Anybody using the Samsung XL2370? I see they are going for under R1800.00 at Makro and I would like some feedback from those actually using them. Looking at the reviews it seems to be a very good screen.

That screen is absolutely brilliant and dirt-cheap at that price. Have never seen a screen with such good picture quality, hands-down.

Hi everyone,

We have finally taken the plunge and got an HD PVR decoder so we need a new TV

Our budget is R10k.
I have done some prelimary googling but to be honest I'm totally lost. The range of TV's that can be bought in that price range is massive..
Should I be looking at LED and if yes, edge lighting or local dimming etc.. ?
I had a look at one of these yesterday

and it seemed very nice and crisp, but I've just got no idea if it is any good or not. Reviews seem to indicate it is a pleasnt screen but I would appreciate some expert advice

The Sony Bravia range are very good TVs... if I couldn't get Samsung, I'd get one of those. For 10k, you might just be able to find a 42-inch LED from Samsung, but whether to go for edge lighting or local dimming... dunno. Never heard of those... what's the difference?

Appears that edge lighting allows the screens to be insanely thin but local dimming gives you better whites and blacks..
Am looking at the LED Samsungs as well, but their latest models are quite expensive..

Have a look at the 4, 5, and 6 series... much cheaper than the 7 and 8 series.

Yeah, that looks the business. If you go 5-series, you might be able to find a larger LED for roughly the same price. Unless you're happy with 40-inches.

the Philips 234EL2 for R1400 ?? Bargain ?

Definitely not a bad price, just a pity it doesn't have 2 ms delay.

The exact same screen I was looking for! It was my first choice as it is one of only a few LED's that have the VESA mounts (was rather important to me). Also the reviews for the Philips was very favourable.

The reason I didn't buy it? Well I could not get hold of one and eventually settled on the Samsung XL2370.

Well, I'd have gone for the XL2370 from the beginning, but I don't think it has wall mounts though?

Nope, no wall mounts, but considering the price I paid it was a real bargain.

My next screen upgrade will be the 27-inch LED from Samsung or maybe the Asus equivalent.

I'd consider the Asus 'cause it has double the DC ratio of the Samsung.

When I bought my new PC, I also needed a Monitor so I went to Incredible Corruption to have a look at what they had. The Acer G245H just shouted out to me. Even the other LED's looked dull beside it. They wanted R2000 for it, which wasnt bad for a 24" about 5 months ago. But the monitor's specs on their little info card looked pathetic. So I decided to google it. I couldnt find any monitor with the same name on their info card, but I stumbled upon the G245H which looked surprisingly like the one in the shop. And it had alot better specs.

So when I returned, I found to my surprise that it IS in fact a G245H, and that they had some false info on their little card. I have been in love with my acer ever since.

I have a LG 22 inch E2240 LED Full HD screen, got it for R1500... Question is, what is so special about LED screens and what is an ideal GPU for it? Might be getting a HD4890 since my HD5450 stinks...

There is no ideal GPU for a LED screen, it's about the screen's resolution, what you using the PC for, etc.

The general rule is that LEDs offer brighter, clearer, crisper image quality over their normal LCD counterparts. I say "general" because some of the LEDs I've seen looked like ordinary LCDs to me, I couldn't see any difference in the image quality. One such screen was the BX2450. If you want a proper LED, get one with at least 5,000,000 contrast (or Dynamic Contrast / Mega Dynamic Contrast, whatever it's called).

The new Samsung LEDs are very good or the XL2370 or PX2370.
