I just registered on http://www.bleepingcomputer.com, upon confirming my registration, and logging in for the first time I got this message:
Hello Anthropoid,

Our records indicate that you have never posted to our site before! Why not make your first post today by saying hello and introducing yourself to our community in the Introductions forum.

Have a computer problem or do not understand something? Then post your question in the appropriate forums and start getting the answers you want and the information you need!
It then gave me a link to the appropriate "Introduce yourself", "Rules etc etc" "Where did you get your nickname from", "Your BleepingComputer experience"

This is a hijack:

If we recieved PCF Nobel prizes for great ideas I would get one for this:
If you are running PunBB or any other forum that uses BBCode, why not try my Image Upload Mod, here is a screenshot:
Image

Would this be compatible to work on PCF.co.za?
Think about it, local image hosting from now on, saving everyone's bandwidth and sooooo user friendly. Let the link explain more.

Pretty please, incorporate this. pleaaaaaaaaase.

*edit* P.S. and no more new members asking "how do I upload pictures?" horaaaaay!

Two reasons why I say no:
  1. It's not designed for phpBB and therefore is not guaranteed to work.
  2. More seriously, I notice that the solution for non-PunBB forums involving including a PHP file in the source that resides on a third-party forum. That's a potentially serious security hole. I, for one, would not include code that I have no control over.

point taken. but wouldn't it be worthwhile for PCF to then do this on their own for the forums? I mean, it's not terabytes of space we're talking about. even if there's a 1MB limit on files, which is a lot, a few gigs would ensure safe hosting for years to come.

Wait until phpBB3. It supports attachments being added to posts.

Whether or not attachments will be implemented on this site remains to be seen (the biggest issue being disk space), but it is there.

The biggest issue is, in fact, the price of bandwidth. South African bandwidth is terribly expensive, and while the small number of images currently hosted on the forum's server doesn't amount to much, the expenses will skyrocket when you implement the ability to upload small files of even 100kb each. At any one time, there are probably about 500 connections to the site, and once added up, you'll find hosting bills in excess of thousands of Rands a month.

True. Forgot about that. :P

I would expect PCF to have a SUPER HIGH bandwidth usage host if not even uncapped.

It will help out a lot since people with local only cap can then view pictures as well ;)

Will help people whos work/schools block various photo hosting sites as well ;)
