DarkRanger, there is a new Highsite up on Erasmusrand, from there the split of the N1 and R21 is clearly visible, you should be able to connect, please plot your location on www.wug.za.net and do a line of sight calculation

That highsite also covers north western Centurion and can see JHB from there (40km)

I'm moving at the end of the year to the other side of the hill that blocks me from the highsite. No, I'm not moving because of that.

But we'll see if I fall in sight of a highsite. I'm sure that I will though!

Now to get the money for the equipment my side!

PTAWUG Die Wilgers Highsite located on the Bronberg in the middle of Pretoria East. It took us a month and five days from the first inspection of the site to the installation of the wifi kit. 17 people pitched to help lift the tower.
The tower was pulled down in 1983 (was used as a radio tower then) and we refurbished it to use as a wifi tower.
We use Eskom power - 400m cable from the bottom.
It is a 1.2km walk up the hill.
Die Wilgers Highsite links to Lynnwood Highsite, Constantia Park highsite and Silverton highsite, it covers the Die Wilgers, Equestria, Murrayfield, Faerie Glen, Garsfontein, Waterkloof areas.
Thanks a lot to everyone that helped to get this highsite from an 26 year old tower lying in the bushes to a operational PTAWUG highsite.

Lucky buggers!

I live in the dark side of Africa.... Sheesh

Hopefully I'd be connected to a Wifi in my area before i die!

Till then... Local Lan Gaming sessions at my house, will have to do.

Ps.. Lots of sharing occur b4 acctual gaming starts, so the sessions end very early in the mornings... With a Wifi link, i'd be more inclined to play, decent hours.. I think!

I was skeptical at first before i joined the WUG, I thought that paying R2k is a bit much for playing LAN games. But trust me, ITS WORTH it!

It’s not just about the games, or the files we share or the VoIP, it’s the knowledge you gain, the friends you make, it’s a whole community and everyone is very helpful!

And if you do not have coverage, put up a new Highsite, ask your friends/neighbours to join, get donations.

Join today, its the right thing to do :P
