In this case - the boy should be tried to the full extent as he coerced her to do it. Blackmailed her. She needs psychological help.

Kids do stupid things. And girls will do almost anything for the approval of a guy. And guys are easily swayed and goaded by their friends. They need to boast. In "normal" cases - both kids should be reprimanded and punished accordingly. Jail time will not serve any purpose here. If they distribute the material - then it becomes a more serious offence and legal action needs to be taken.

Maybe unfortunately, I would have to say yes to teach her a lesson. It's committing a crime and breaking the law. With the law in place, it will reduce the amount of offenses. Synthesis, what you are essentially advocating is to punish the victim.

The girl is both a victim and a criminal.

In the US it is illegal for minors to take sexually explicit photos or videos of themselves, so she should face charges for that.

The girl didn't distribute the video, so she wont be prosecuted for that - and that is a much more serious offense under US law, but as I said before, there's not much the legal system can do to a 14 year old.

She is a criminal according to US law where it is illegal for a minor to record themselves in a sexual situation. It does not matter if it is consensual, it is still illegal.

Pedophile ring spanning the globe busted up, up to 70,000 pervs in 30 countries involved

Police around the globe smashed an international pedophile ring -- the largest ever found by law enforcement.

As many as 70,000 people in 30 countries appear to have been involved in the horrific network of abuse, European Union police chief Rob Wainwright announced Wednesday at a press conference at The Hague.

Authorities said 184 suspects were arrested and 230 victims were rescued in the three-year investigation.

"\[It is\] probably the largest online pedophile network in the world," Wainwright said.

He said the ring was tied to an online forum called boylover.net based in Amsterdam.

The investigation, dubbed Operation Rescue, rounded up suspects including police officers, youth leaders and teachers ranging in age from 17 to 82.

One Spaniard who worked at summer youth camps is suspected of abusing some 100 children over five years, officials said.

Undercover investigators infiltrated the network and discovered members trafficking in disturbing images and video of children being abused.

When the Dutch administrator of the forum was arrested, he helped authorities untangle the site's complex encryption measures, enabling them to identify other members.

Suspects have been identified in the U.S., the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Canada and Thailand, authorities said.

Peter Davies of the British child protection center said there would be more arrests as the investigations continue.

"Those who have been members of the site can expect a knock on the door in the very near future," he said.

Bill lets `sexting' teens avoid charges

Teenagers who text or e-mail nude or suggestive photos to one another or post them online would be able to avoid prosecution as sex offenders under a bill approved unanimously Monday by the New Jersey Assembly.

The bill addresses the growing teen pastime of "sexting" and allows minors caught doing it for the first time to complete a diversionary program rather than get saddled with a criminal record that could keep them from entering college or getting a job. Assemblywoman Pam Lampitt of Camden County, who sponsored the bill, said such prosecutions can unnecessarily clog the courts.

"We want to make sure these kids know they did something wrong," said Lampitt, a Democrat. "However, we don't want to send them off to jail. We don't want them to have a criminal record."

The bill would let teens caught sexting avoid prosecution, and perhaps have to register as Megan's Law offenders, if they completed an education program that they'd have to pay for. The courts would decide which teenagers were eligible for the diversionary program. The attorney general's office would develop the curriculum.

The vote was 78-0, with no abstentions, showing the bill's bipartisan support.

GOP Assemblyman Jon Bramnick spoke in favor of the legislation before the vote, saying it was a good bill that "sends a clear signal to the Judiciary that when young people make a mistake, this Legislature is saying, 'give them a chance, give them an option other than a criminal past.'"

Lampitt said sexting has become more commonplace, and has been vexing school administrators, parents and police. She said 20 percent of teens in one survey acknowledged sharing a sexually explicit photo. In another sampling, 44 percent of high school boys said they had viewed a nude or semi-nude photo of someone else while in school.

At least seven other states have enacted laws creating diversionary programs for juveniles who engage in sexting: Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Utah and Vermont. Similar bills are working through legislatures in New York and Pennsylvania.

Bills like these are being enacted all over the US - which is why I asked you to Google the sexting laws - that keyword would have shown you all the bills being enacted to reform what is currently a bit of a harsh law.

Given the current “heightened terror alert” in the U.S., Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) officials find themselves staring at people in the nude via full-body scanners and executing new "enhanced" search pat-downs of peoples' private regions to ensure that our commercial airplanes are safe.

Just how far the U.S. government is willing to invade individuals' privacy in the name of counterterrorism was highlighted by a recent incident at a Kentucky airport.

A 6-year-old girl named Anna Drexel was just returning home from vacation, with her parents Selena and Todd Drexel. As they passed through the security screening checkpoint, to her parents' alarm, Anna was pulled aside for a special "modified" search.

During the search, the screener informed the parents and the girl, "[I'm going to] put my hand in the waistband."

She reassured the parents that she would only touch "sensitive" areas with the back of her hand.

The search left the child confused and in tears. In an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" program, Selena Drexel said her child "had a very bad feeling that what happened was wrong."

Alarmed by what was unfolding, the parents surreptitiously videotaped the incident on a cell phone, posting it on YouTube [video] as a warning to parents. The video is now creating quite a stir, much like the infamous don't "touch my junk" screening video.

Martin Macpherson, the director of the London-based Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers says that there are no known incidents in which terrorists have use children six and younger in an attack.

But some in the U.S. government are defending the "modified" search policy in place for children 12 and younger. They state the policy, which includes reaching inside the child's pants in an attempt to search for possible explosive devices, is clearly stated on the agency's website.

Children and adults are often extensively searched if they decline to go through the scanners, which show nude images of the passenger.

Jennifer Mitchell, co-president of Child Lures Prevention, a Shelburne, Vt., organization that works to prevent crimes against children, also seemed to defend the practice in an interview with the Associated Press. While she admits the search is "a little invasive", she adds, "This is a hard issue because we have national security on one hand... and children's safety on the other. The only reason it would be allowed is the parents are right there, the clothes are not being removed, the parents are watching to make sure it's done ok."

It is unclear, though exactly how "national security" might hinge on reaching inside childrens' clothes, given that children as young as Anna Drexel have never been used in an attack.

U.S. Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) is among a handful of government officials who have expressed outrage at the TSA and other officials' defense of the official involved in the incident. He states, "This conduct is in clear violation of TSA's explicit policy not to conduct thorough pat-downs on children under the age of 13."

Rep. Chaffetz is chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security. He says he was "personally outraged and disgusted" by the video of the search.

Under Rep. Chaffetz's pressuring, the TSA has agreed to review the search policy for "low-risk populations, such as young passengers." It said it may opt to "move beyond a one-size fits all system", though it gave no clue about what policies might comprise its new varied child search system or when it might replace the current policies.

In some states a stranger touching or feeling a child's groin/genitalia can be construed as a felony sex crime. Sex crimes against children often receive stiff sentences, including years in prison. The TSA has stated it will not pursue any charges or discipline against the agent involved in the search, as the contact was initiated in the interest of preserving national security.

Feds catch ‘pedophile,’ a victim himself of Wi-Fi signal theft

Lying on his family room floor with assault weapons trained on him, shouts of “pedophile!” and “pornographer!” stinging like his fresh cuts and bruises, the Buffalo home­owner didn’t need long to figure out the reason for the early morning wake-up call from a swarm of federal agents.

That new wireless router. He’d gotten fed up trying to set a password. Someone must have used his Internet connection, he thought.

“We know who you are! You downloaded thousands of images at 11:30 last night,” the man’s lawyer, Barry Covert, recounted the agents saying. They referred to a screen name, “Doldrum.”

“No, I didn’t,” he insisted. “Somebody else could have but I didn’t do anything like that.”

“You’re a creep. . . . Just admit it,” they said.

Law enforcement officials say the case is a cautionary tale. Their advice: Password-protect your wireless router.

Plenty of others would agree. The Sarasota, Fla., man, for example, who got a similar visit from the FBI last year after someone on a boat docked in a marina outside his building used a potato chip can as an antenna to boost his wireless signal and download an astounding 10 million images of child porn, or the North Syracuse, N.Y., man who in December 2009 opened his door to police who’d been following an electronic trail of illegal videos and images. The man’s neighbor pleaded guilty April 12.

For two hours that March morning in Buffalo, agents tapped away at the home­owner’s desktop computer, eventually taking it with them, along with his and his wife’s iPads and iPhones.

Within three days, investigators determined the home­owner had been telling the truth: If someone was downloading child pornography through his wireless signal, it wasn’t him. About a week later, agents arrested a 25-year-old neighbor and charged him with distribution of child pornography. The case is pending in federal court.

A study released in February provides a sense of how often computer users rely on the generosity — or technological shortcomings — of their neighbors.

The poll conducted for the Wi-Fi Alliance, the industry group that promotes wireless standards, found that among 1,054 Americans age 18 and older, 32 percent acknowledged trying to access a Wi-Fi network that wasn’t theirs. An estimated 201 million households worldwide use Wi-Fi networks, according to the alliance.

Police seek IDs of dozens of child porn victims found on laptop

Authorities say they are searching for the identities of more than a dozen young girls whose pornographic images were found on the computers, cell phones and cameras of a local man.

Ian Hartney, 20, was arrested by federal agents on charges of producing child pornography. His case came about when a Chesapeake computer store reported to authorities that Hartney's laptops contained child porn.

Hartney, a shipyard worker from Newport News, remains in jail pending a scheduled bond hearing Thursday afternoon in U.S. District Court. He was arrested Friday on charges of producing, receiving and possessing child pornography.

Chesapeake police and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement began an investigation of Hartney in November when the president of an unidentified Chesapeake computer tech support company reported to police that an employee saw child porn on one of Hartney's two laptop computers, according to a court affidavit.

The porn almost went undiscovered. In order to repair the laptop, the employee had to copy the contents of the computer's entire hard drive and later reinstall it. The employee did not initially see the images, according to the affidavit filed by ICE agent Kristin Joseph.

When Hartney got his computers back, he discovered that some of his picture files were missing. He called the employee to ask if she could find them. When she searched the files that she had saved, she discovered the child pornography and immediately called police, the affidavit says.

On Dec. 6, Chesapeake police, ICE and FBI agents, the Virginia State Police and Newport News police raided Hartney's apartment. They discovered six computers, including the two recently repaired laptops, plus four cameras and several cell phones.

The computers, cell phones and cameras contained numerous child pornography photos and videos, the affidavit says. Some of the pictures appeared to be homemade, with 25 different young girls in the images.

The authorities discovered the identity of one local girl who admitted to a sexual relationship with Hartney beginning several years ago, when she was 15, the affidavit says.

The girl was able to identify six of the other 24 minors whose images appeared on Hartney's computers, cameras and cell phones.

"The investigative team is still in the process of identifying and interviewing additional potential juvenile victims who were depicted in sexually explicit images found on Hartney's computers, cameras and cellular phones," Joseph said in her affidavit.

John P. Torres, special agent in charge of the ICE Washington region office, said anyone with information about the victims should call the agency at (866) 347-2423.

"One of our main priorities is to identify and assist any additional potential victims," Torres said in a statement.

ICE, he added, "will continue to aggressively use its investigative authorities, in conjunction with Virginia law enforcement agencies, to hold those who commit sexual crimes against children accountable for their actions."
