Im busy upgrading my system at the moment and was wanting to know which would be the better RAM to get? The mobo can support DDR400 and DDR300

Shot!

Any recommendations for which module or brand name to get. Im looking Corsair DDR400 1GB (2x512MB) XMS PRO

Latency: 2-3-2-6 Rated

If I can eventually get hold of two sets of these Im gonna be pretty happy. Its just the price is insane! Just over R2k 8O

My other option (the budget one) is the Corsair DDR400 1GB (2x512MB) XMS TwinX

Latency: 2-3-3-6 which I suppose isnt that much of a difference to the XMS Pro kit and they both 1GB

If money is no option, you know what to do

But both are really good,
you looking at some great ram, if not the best

But I also work with a budget and will go for the Corsair DDR400 1GB (2x512MB) XMS TwinX , they are really great!!!!

Get the cheaper set, there'll be no noticeable difference in performance. In benchmarks, maybe half a percent.

Cool! I reckon Im gonna go with the XMS TwinX and rather spend the extra bit of cash on a Core 2 Duo :D
One more thing though. My mobo can suppport non-ECC unbuffered RAM. I see that a guy is selling RAM that is buffered. Will this have any effect on performance or create bottlenecks?

Thanks for the advice man, greatly appreciated

No you nut

Im gonna take the cash I was gonna spend on the more expensive RAM and put it towards a Core 2 Duo CPU

Why'd you post the same messsage twice? You could have just hoped someone would read the whole thing and answer it ;)

It won't have any effect on your performance, that kinda RAM is used mostly in servers and those kind of applications where data integrity is very important.

Makes no sense to use that kinda memory in a normal system.
