In actual fact Anime is not licensed in S.A yet Animax is broadcasting it locally through DSTV but they don't have the distribution rights to sell Anime in S.A. DSTV brought the right to show the channel here in S.A nothing else.Rayne wrote:The Anime Traders Club hereby terminated.
Anime on the drive and shared prior will be airing on DSTV's Animax, as of November 3d 2007, in the very new feature.
Thus, licensed for SA broadcast.
It was fun while it lasted.
THE END
U can only claim a license once u start selling the physical dvds for region X locally and that would be companies like Poineer, ADV, Geneon ect.... and not Animax or DSTV
Till the "Film And Publication Board" : http://www.fpb.gov.za/ states otherwise but they have nothing on there regarding fansubs
anyway enough of my rant
Since we're on the subject, when does fansubbed material become...illegal?larch wrote:In actual fact Anime is not licensed in S.A yet Animax is broadcasting it locally through DSTV but they don't have the distribution rights to sell Anime in S.A. The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.

Unfortunately the sharing has been ended.
# Even though control over the content of the drive was pretty good, some stuff still crept onto it that was licensed, thus Rayne decided (rather than getting fined / jailed) he would stop the circulation.
Obviously there are still some parties circulating Anime among themselves.
I would recommend people in this thread to be PM'ed so you can find out where what and when. - just so long as it is not publicly declared as a sharing community on this thread anymore.
(Just to satisfy the war mongers / anti-anime club) lets keep it like this. ?
Unfortunately there is not a clear law against it's distribution in SA, and thus the Admins / Mods decided to rather not let the sharing 'club' continue - even though many of us (including myself) LOVE anime.

Temporary Absence
I have been thinking of emailing SAFACT concerning fansubbed anime for a while now and I might just do that soon. There's a hellstorm of top-notch shows starting next month and I would like things clarified once and for all before such time comes.
At current I am not comfortable initiating trade whilst half the shows are broadcasted on pay-per-view national television. It does not take a rocket scientist to conclude that won't be a good idea.
So the answer is still a definate no, at least from my side. If you all wan't to start trade again, well, best of luck.
As a close there are a lot of technicalities as far as fansubbed anime's concerned coming this year. Just around the corner, in April to be exact, Japan is passing a new law making P2P filesharing illegal in state. So, there goes the RAW's. Without RAW's, there's nothing to be subbed now is there? Groups are already stating that it will not stop fansubs, but they are admitting that it will definately negatively affect their ability to do so.
