BUMP

Ok so how would you guys go:
1. Buy 1 or 2 expensive boxsets, or
2. Get some 1st 2 vol. with those artbox sets?

Posted: 15 May 2006, 16:56
by Nuke
Rather Buy the Boxsets, bit only if youre sure that it is what you want. What boxsets would you choose?

Eish it's a tough one... Also deciding if I must go expensive sets or more cheaper sets...
If expensive something like Chrno Crusade, Scryed, Eva, Samurai Kyo or Gundam Wing...
If cheap something like Those Who Hunt Elves, Excel Saga, etc etc
Still have to go do some checking, but would like to get stuff that I don't have atm as fansubs... And ofcourse also dependant on if they have in stock...

Boxsets ja.

Problem with volumes, especially the new shows, is, they take too long to complete the set.

Don't buy Those Who Hunt Elves if you've not seen it yet. It's not my favorite show.

Personally I won't buy Scryed either.

Fist of the North Star

On DVD, I've got:
Ninja Scroll, 2 disc set (one regular, one widescreen disc)

Sadly, I have no video machine T_T So the VHSes are a little less than useful

Forgive me if anything I say happens to offend anyone
How is it possible for anyone to afford so much anime? Even Ashley can’t afford to buy so much anime locally as all of you have. Perhaps you’re able to do so because;
1. You’re all foreigners (Brits; Americans or Germans) spending your currency on anime in this country.
2. You all happen to work abroad and then you come home spending your hard earned pounds and dollars on anime.
3. Some of you must have access to an inexhaustible trust fund.

Not at all. Boxsets can be expensive and collectables insanely expensive but the general volumes are cheap.

It's also wise to wait before purchasing boxsets. For example, you can get the Elfen Lied boxset now for less than R400. That's nothing.

well Ahzure, then do not let larch show you his list of all stuff anime related... you might just get a heart attack...

it is simple really... some people spend money on pc's, some on alchohol, some on partying and then you get those who spend it on anime...

Okay thanks for info. Ja I’m friends with a crazy person who doesn’t care how much things cost sometimes and of course she expect you to keep up with her. I’m very very very poor and most of the time I’m only able set something like R150 – R250 aside a month for anime; dvds; games or books. It’s really difficult to decide what to spent one's money on. The fact that anime is somewhat expensive in this country doesn’t help either.
But hey one tries to support anime anyway one can.

I got the following titles for free from Ashley.
Armitage III
Bubblegum Crisis 2040 DVD Box Set
Oh My Goddess: The Movie
Spirited Away

Locally purchased anime
Hellsing vol 1 (R240 @ Look & Listen)
Hellsing vol2 (R80 @ Cape Gate’s Cash Converters)

I was lucky to get the funny Golden Boy for free from AnimeWorx when I ordered my Elfen... the 1 volume which they said was available wasn't and so they compensated me for that, plus when they got the volume I asked for, they sent that to me...

I only have:
Elfen Lied
Chrno Crusade
DNAngel
Golden Boy

but they are all of quality which I enjoyed... rather than having every anime you can think of and only a handful of those you actually enjoyed...

I honestly can’t say but I think the anime purist (people who only watch anime in Japanese) would say it’s not anime. I remember going to the cinema to check it out and getting it on VHS as a birthday present. Plus I’ve seen it sold as a combo with FF7 Advent Children @ Checkers Hyper.

Well I’m only buying boxsets or thinpaks these days except maybe when a series consists of 3 or 4 DVDs because in 2003 I attempted to complete a series by buying it a volume at a time. Well it’s 2007 today and I’m still stuck with volume 1 of Chobits(don’t know when I’ll buy the others.)

I’ve discovered that it’s much cheaper buying anime overseas than it is buying it locally basically all you need is a credit card or a friend with a credit card. I make use of my friend’s credit card, basically just depositing the money into her account and then letting her order the items I want. Believe me you score big time ordering from overseas(from a trusted site of course) Just to give an example if I had purchased The Fushigi Yūgi Season 1 Collection from the local Look & listen it set me back R2400 while from the online retailer it would cost $60 = R420 including shipping.
That’s why someone like me who has about R200 - R300 left over each month is able to afford the occasional boxset or two.
