Yes - listening intently. Seems the latest is that one more person wanted to leave than arrived. Interesting. The plane was delayed for a few hours at OR before it was allowed to depart.

I have not followed the story but now I am interested. What happened? I'd be pretty pissed at a plane being late, and I've been on a plane that took 2 hours to depart.

Offenders chartered a Jet Airways A330-203 (VT-JWG) and offloaded pax at restricted airfield FAWK without receiving correct clearance to operate there (as a civilian flight, it should have gone into FALA or FAOR).

After public outcry, VT-JWG repositioned to FAOR at 20130502 1230Z and departed with pax at 20130503 1740Z.

for any normal person, FAWK = AFB Waterkloof, SAAF
FALA = Lanseria Airport and FAOR = O.R. Thambo International Airport (alternative and the old code = FAJS)

It would have been a much more interesting story if they were shot down like any unauthorised plane landing at a military base should be. On a side note they want a secrecy act but they are allowed to say on national news that all logistics etc. for the military goes through this base who the hell needs spies any more

In English - The Gupta family (forgive spelling) hired the whole of Sun City out for a Wedding. They then flew 200 guests in from India, through Waterkloof airbase without permission. No SARS officials were present either. They then had a blue light brigade lead them to Sun City. And it seems that 201 passengers were returning to India.

Well those are the facts as I understand them.

So 200 people entered illegally, resources was wasted in getting them to the destination and someone was smuggled out of the country. Does that sound right?

Well no - the authorities stepped in and did security checks on all the passengers - the additional was vetted. Sars did their check and everyone was escorted out to their plane without further delay.

Now the DA wants a full investigation - the guy who supposedly gave permission has been suspended. The Metro cops are trying to work out who gave permission for the escort to Sun City and the Army are trying to determine how the plane was allowed to land in the first place - as no one gave permission. And they are digging into the past offences that were "squashed" where the Gupta's were involved. All very exciting.

“Instruction to learners Read all the intructions carefully. Answere on the answer sheet provide. Write neatly.”

No, these are not our typos.

They are instructions on an English Home Language question paper for Grade 7 pupils, which was set by the Mpumalanga Department of Education’s Nkangala district.

The assessment paper, which was distributed to schools in March, is littered with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and countless other blunders.

The first section of the paper is a comprehension test based on a short story titled Bees In the Jam.

The first page of Bees In the Jam, which runs over three pages, is not even broken up into paragraphs.

It starts off like this:

“One day I returned at the camp to find Isaiah sitting at some distance crying. ‘The bees, she got the jam.’ He had been stung in many places. While he was up at the Windmill doing some laundry and swimming, a bee has discovered some open tin of fig jam in the tent. She had made a beeline for her hive, and returned several co-workers. On the principle of finders keepers, they believed that the fig was theirs, and made these quite clear to Isaiah. As I has been guilty of leaving the jam leaving the jam in the tent, I felt in duty bound to get that tin of jam out way before others returned returned.”

In case you’re wondering, the repeated words are as they appear in the question paper.

Mpumalanga education spokesman Jasper Zwane said they were aware of the question paper, and the department had dealt with the issue.

He said the official who had set the paper has been “removed from performing that task” and given a warning.

He could not say how many schools had used the question paper.

Zwane said the department had since set up a team of specialists whose duty was to go through district-set question papers and ensure that this did not happen again.

He added that before this, question papers set by districts had been approved by district officials themselves.

Now all question papers from all the districts must go through the team of specialists before being sent to schools.

Schools that perform well academically are not obliged to use district-set assessment papers, but schools that perform poorly, with a pass rate below 50 percent, have to use district-set assessments.

Did any of you watch Dali Tambo's interview of Robert Mugabe last night?

Given what the British are reported to have done, he didn't come across as an unreasonable monster to me, but then I am pretty gullible and easy to confuse....

So Athol Trollip has dished out a D.A. membership card to King Dalindyebo of the amaThembu, he of the penchant for face omelette.

A case of no publicity is bad publicity whatever the consequences?

Why would someone need a membership card for any party in any case? What are the benefits? Supper with a local party representative once a month?
