Re: The Banana Republic thread
I'd be only too happy to pay R18....oh wait....
So they would what, invent a calender, or go back to whatever the largest tribal grouping in this region were using way back when? No doubt certain people stand to benefit when THIS goes out to tender.....as with the useless arms we bought to defend ourselves from the Zombie Apocalypse/Tokolosh Takeover...
Seeing as we already in bed with the Chinese, perhaps they can be persuaded to adopt the Chinese Calender?

*speechless*NUM accuses rival union of witchcraft
2012-06-15 14:25
Johannesburg - South Africa's top mineworkers union has accused a rival of using witchcraft to boost recruiting, an allegation taken seriously among the rank and file in a country where traditional spiritual beliefs are widely held.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has been locked in a violent battle for membership with the upstart Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) at the world's largest platinum mine, run by Impala Platinum.
"One of the tools which is used strongly is 'muti'," NUM General Secretary Frans Baleni told journalists on Thursday night, referring to traditional medicines that can be made from a range of ingredients including animal or human body parts.
'Very strong sangoma'
Baleni said NUM's members believed that AMCU had a "very strong 'sangoma'," or witchdoctor.
"One of the myths is that if you don't toe the line, especially if you are a man, if you defy them you might have bedroom problems at home," he said.
Sangomas are widely respected by South Africans of all walks of life, including business leaders and politicians.
Baleni later told Reuters it was an issue that was not being taken lightly because many workers believed in such things.
"We are taking it seriously as part of the tactics of this union as our members are telling us about the use of sangomas and muti," Baleni said.
AMCU officials said they were not using witchcraft.
"There is no one among us who is using muti or sangomas. It is rubbish that he is saying. We uphold Christian principles, we don't use sangomas," said AMCU general secretary Jeff Mphahlehle.
NUM has also accused AMCU of using violence to recruit, which it has denied.

Sounds like a perfectly legitimate strategy.Anakha56 wrote:South Africa's top mineworkers union has accused a rival of using witchcraft to boost recruiting
Where in the Unions charter does it say you may NOT use witchcraft
Sounds like NUM is all sour grapes because they did not think of it first!

Yes it does seem legit strategy.jamin_za wrote:Sounds like a perfectly legitimate strategy.Anakha56 wrote:South Africa's top mineworkers union has accused a rival of using witchcraft to boost recruiting
A huge section of our population - not just rural and not just black - believe in witchcraft. And these same people probably make up a significant portion of unions' membership.
So, well done NUM. Good tactic.

You know, it makes me wonder what their thoughts sound like to them. When I think it's in my natural language, and I assume it's like this for any other intelligent being.
I can only imagine it goes something like "hurr durr derp derp durr hurr huur durr doh" for people like these.

Perhaps we could begin with "Eish......" and continue with whatever isiXhosa is appropriate? Unfortunately, killing off even the billion dumbest people in the world will not make that much of a dent.

Nice, though I think the rest of us would be feeling all smart while living in perpetual ruin.

Re: The Banana Republic thread
with a current guestimate of 7 total, this would mean that..
Kalster's point was that, when dividing the world into 'clever' and 'stupid', for some strange reason we very rarely place ourselves amongst the 'stupid'...
given that most intelligence scores are rated against an average mean, trashing 6bn poeple will simply adjust where the mean lies, which would only result in further such cleansing being required because nobody likes a dummy...
also, this discussion is just inane. as a kid i used to place rocks/coins/dead animals on tracks, foil on the contacts, jump off tall structures for fun, (breaking a leg twice), etc, etc. i was reckless, thoughtless and feckless... we all were.
- :- your personal IQ falls within the upper 14% of the population...
:- despite this, you're proposing to eradicate 86% of the population while failing to account for the logistical complexity of this "solution".
:- the proposed population segment you're proposing to dispose of is, by your standard, none too bright and far more likely to engage in acts of mindless violence therefore indicating a better state of preparedness than the measly 1bn "intellectuals" you're relying on to conduct the cleansing...
:- all of which calls into question the very first point
:- which requires that you off yourself?

Hey never said I'm in the top 14% but since they are already geared towards violence it is only a matter of setting them up against one another. Not really that difficult in this day and age it would seem
Ok so just said kill 6 billion considering the number of dumbasses out there it is bound to improve the overall intelligence of the population

this was implied, unless you were advocating this while acknowledging that you would be part of the group being eradicated?CapNemo wrote:Hey never said I'm in the top 14%
how are you measuring this intelligence? i know plenty of people who would be rated as 'intelligent' in certain respects but, unsurprisingly, as dumb as porcine excrement in most others...CapNemo wrote:kill 6 billion considering the number of dumbasses out there it is bound to improve the overall intelligence of the population
