Yes, Linux does use less RAM and HDD space but if it wasn´t for Windows I doubt Linux would be where it is today. It would probably still be text based (a large portion of the Linux users still use it text based for normal use).
 
 I think Linux does have its place though I personally use Linux for a number of things and enjoy its capabilities. Linux rulz and the same goes for Windows.

Think about it, when did GUI all start? Microsoft came out with a GUI and in competition of that Linux came out with it. Microsoft started the whole thing. Don´t get me wrong, I´m not saying that Linux sucks (I use it) all I am saying it that Microsoft had the idea first. Look at dates of when the first GUI came out.
 
 All I was making reference to was the graphical side of things not the OS itself, I believe that there would still be new kernels being released but the graphical portion of Linux is in competition of Windows. I am also grateful to the guys involved with the GNU project and am not dissing them.
 
 No need to get all upset, think about it and then come back to me.

 <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_lol.gif"> it was Apple who came out with the 1st GUI (Lisa and Macintosh) but that doesn´t mean that Apple started it - it was those people at Xerox´s PARC who shld get the credit in GUI. so in this case Linux doesn´t owe anything to Microsoft as what you´re trying to say in the graphical side (GUI) - coz Microsoft isn´t the 1st one who started it anyway <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_frown.gif"> my point is this, Linux development is an initiative of the Open Source Community - they didn´t ask Microsoft to help them nor pirate any of their existing technology. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_wink.gif">

Okay yes, I do stand corrected. It was Xerox´s PARC that was the first GUI. Then Apple made Lisa commercially available which was based on the Xerox system. However not many people could afford Lisa. Now on the PC platform there were a number of GUIs available before Microsofts first but none were all that successful.
 
 I don´t understand why you are getting all excited, I made a statement and that is what I believe to be true. Take a look at what I said...

 I did not say that Linux is a "pirate" of Windows or that they got help from Microsoft. I believe that Microsoft have taken the lead and others have followed. You can say what you want to say about it but that is what I believe.

 i was right the first time around... to say that Linux´s GUI is not attributed to Windows since Microsoft didn´t really started GUI in the 1st place. Linux is Linux - its success is in the fact that people are becoming more and more aware of its capabilities as an alternative OS to Windows.
 Its disgusting to think that Microsoft leads and others just follow since some of Microsoft´s products/tech. is just based on existing ones (IE is based on NCSA Mosaic, etc.). The fact is Microsoft´s questionable bu$ine$$ practices & its advocacy to DMCA (w/c hinder free software development) is what keeping it on top.
 Finally, on a personal note though, its not my nature to just chew & swallow what im being told... i´ll always dare to differ for WHAT IS RIGHT AND JUST. -snipeers-

 I was talking from the GUI point of view, I never said that Linux was a "copy" of Windows. Check my next statement, this is the only point that I have stuck to not that, as you try and imply, me saying Linux sucks (it doesn´t).
 
 I believe that the GUI of Windows is superior to that of Linux, I am making no reference the kernel just the GUI(s)
 
 You seem to imply that I am pro Microsoft but that is not the case, I think that Microsoft Windows has its place and so does Linux. I use both everyday of my life so please don´t try and make me out to be a ******. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_mad.gif">

 Although i DO think that windows is a lot closer to that thin red line called Monopoly with a lot of it´s programs, not just Windows. And i know that windows has a lot more bugs and goggas that linux but we are forced to serve Bill Gates because Everything (Almost)
 runs on Windows and Only Windows. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_mad.gif">

Mr.Cameron sir, I have to say that I can't belive your view on Windows. It is a faulty product that should not be supported, especially since it a STOLEN faulty product. I know this because I have used every windows version under the sun, and not a single one of them is faultless. Would you support a car manufacturer whos cars break down regularly, and for no particular reason?

I use windows too, but under extreme protest. Bill Gates does not deserve to be the richest. He is a crook, and if he deserves it, what does that say about the moral situation of the planet?
