jee's thread of great websites

This thread is for all those incredible websites you find that you want to share with others (no downloads please, there is a thread! ;) ) Please would you not just post a url, but give a bit of background to it as well. Sometimes one finds something not dealing with computers that can be of interest to others :) other times its all pc related.. (or Mac for those who can afford it! )

.
http://isc.sans.org/ is a security site. Don't know if its been mentioned on this forum, cause search brings up Sans the member 8O
It has the SANS Internet storm centre where everyday a volunteer is on duty to watch out for lurking threats, discusses it and where people globally send in warnings. This then is an early warning place where you can find the security trends that might be hitting your network. It "gathers millions of intrusion detection log entries every day". It has lots of security related stuff to read, as well as a great security glossary

I'm not sure who but it was someone on this forum that told me about this site

http://maddox.xmission.com/

The articles are funny as h#ll I've read nearly all of them. But please note, it's all very controversial, and definately to be taken with a dried out ocean of salt, so if you get offended easily, don't even bother

I've been working with PCs for quite some time now, and realised that actually having a site with a proper design and layout, and most important for me, a good interconnection. The best site, with access to drivers and the likes is undoubtely the old but still legendary ESS technology. I worship their webmasters, just for having such a clean layout, paired with good and not bloated design. 5/5 star award.

There is a very good site called WebThang at http://www.webthang.co.uk that might be worth a look. It has some great tuts, particularly for Dreamweaver users that can take you through the entire process from the basics to more complicated stuff. There are also stuff on ASP and MS Access, PHP, MySQL etc.

http://wiki.ehow.com/Main-Page
Excellent how-to add to Wikis, with all sorts of wikis that you can look up.

WiKi is an abbreviation for "What I Know Is". Most popular is the Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia.
Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.

Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.
