Baader Solar Filter, blocks 99.9999% of the light, otherwise I would have had a hole through my camera sensor.

Fantastic shot Wik
@Wez - really nice photos. Just try and chose flowers that aren't old unless you are going to HDR or b/w them. It detracts from the technique.

very true thanks tribs... although the one with the bee seemed to have a lot more colour at shooting time... might have had a lot to do with the one step down in exposure and overly bright flash...

Possible as the stalk of the plant stands out more than the bee does. The white hairs distract from the action. Took me a while before I saw the bee

Re: Photography - (max 640px X 480px allowed!)
someone from ODP also said that.... and noted that macro and close up photography can be really annoying till its done right... think i need to refocus when i have my subject or focus on the plant/flower and then pull the focus back a tad... my tripod isn't stable enough to refocus and then take the shot... the lens has a little wobble in it...
off to durban tomorrow. shall get some more pics and post them

Enjoy your birthday. And don't be disheartened. I still get things wrong in shots. What matters is whether you like the shot or not.

Re: Photography - (max 640px X 480px allowed!)
wise words tribble cat im not getting disheartened just looking for new ways to focus and do it... i dont have very good strobist gear but im getting some soon ... looking at some white shoot throuigh umbelas and a stand or two + flashes... just bought a new flash on BoB.. so things should get better...
a tip i learnt for macro (been watching a lot of videos on photography) is set your focus ring to one point, generally for macro its as close as you can get it, and then move your body back and forth thill you get focus on the object... works really well... much easier than turning a ring

I firmly believe that this might be my best capture, ever. It might not be the best quality, but what it signifies is incredible.
