I dont know jamin, the way i read it is that eskom will still give power to other countries, despite the lack of power in SA. Or am i understanding this wrong?

If that is the case, I say they make SA their top priority ASAP.

I dont like the idea of power generated by stations in SA leaving our borders while rate payers like myself have to sit in darkness.

Agreed Jamin. Why give out our power for FREE, when we have barely enough to help ourself.

I cant understand what the government/eskom is thinking... o wait, they dont think, thats the problem.

For some reason, our town hasent been load shedding today....

Could it be that Eskom got a bit extra for us today? Or will we be in darkness from 16:00 for a few hours like last night again? :(

The mining industry has been shut down which is probably why the general public's still on now.

So if the mining industry is shut down, how are we going to get coal to run our power stations :?:

I can actually give you an educated answer to this.

The reason why we (Municipalitites) keep street lights on during the day, specially in rural areas, is due to the huge theft of the electrical cables once there is no power in them. (Lights off) So, we keep the lights on, using minimal power, to avoid the cables being stolen. Thus, saving more money this way, because one cable lenght is much much more expensive to replace than to pay R5 per month per light that is burning 24hours a day.

Hey eskom did advise government that they would need more stations to be built and they advised the government in 1997... they said that economical growth of the country was growing and so the need for power would as well and by 2007 the current stations would not be able to power the country... however the government did not think that growth would be so fast so they didn't consider it ..... and i honestly think its a bit late now with the country losing billions of rands very fast the economy is gonna drop like a stone :( and it takes time to build new stations:/

the ironic thing though was the vice-president (i think) was giving an apology speech and the power cut during that speech lol ......

heard that on lunch time news on etv today

Come on, do you fully believe that Eskom did everything they could to push to get this fixed? Why did they not submit the report again in 98, 99 , 2000... They can get diesel / air power plants up within 3 years to alleviate the problems till the full sized big guns are online. They do however not even consider those options. Also, why do their managers get millions in bonusses if they do not perform the service they are paid to deliver?

Killing the mines is also an awesome way of killing our economy...

Its because of things like this I'm glad to live where I live. Here is so few people that its not worth eskom's time to shut us down.

IMO the faster SA hits rockbottom the better, atleast after that people can start to rebuild.(Flamebait I guess)

SA will hit rock bottom. It's simply a matter of time. For those who don't know yet, the mining sector was cut because, if they weren't, we would have had a national blackout right now. Does your minds comprehend the severity of this? A total shutdown.

This is what happens when you put a monkey behind a desk. Regardless how well you dress him, he remains a fkn monkey.

No white male appointments for the rest of the financial year.
Now if that isn't a racist statement, i don't know what is.

Sure, appoint black people in eskom, but just make sure they can do the job FFS. How hard can it be?

And i just heard: Our power will be cut now, although Eskom says there is no load shedding... wonderful, ain't it?

Hmm ok, no power failure here. Miss communication from the municipality, only the schedules changed, but they said power failure.... go figure, just as useless as Eskom itself.
