Which amp makes would you recommend?

by -PhoeniX-
well the harder the case is the more protection it offers i suppose!

the best advice i can give to you is to just go out there and play as many guitars as you can. and if you see one you like but it doesnt sound so great remember they dont change the strings on the floor guitars very often and the setups are normally rush jobs. so ask them to set it up nicely for so you can really hear how it sounds.

if you buy a telecaster i will kill you. just getting it out there

 , what is the difference between teles and strats, Ive heard they sound pretty different?

What have you heard about G&L legacy, they have a similar design to the fender strat.

The G&L comanche aswell, but whats with the staggard pickups?

i hate korn.

but anyways telecasters are the grossest guitars ever made. they might sound a little nice but they look super *****.

try not to go for G&L. stick to fender (or gibson)
cos at the end of the day they did it first!

hmmm amp makes. good thing you asked cos ive played so many lately looking for a good one to replace my one (decided on a marshall jcm 800 mk2 master 100watt lead series full valve head unit and a marshall cab loaded with celestions (not bad for R5000. do your research on that one)

but for a beginner the laney tf200 tube fusion is pretty good. its got a preamp valve for the distortion channels to give it a beefier tone and a warmer sound. comes with a footswitch as well. also the peavey studio 112 is pretty good. dont bother with the marshall dfx range at all. roland has those nice cube amps i was telling you about the other day. thats about it on the low end of it.

cool dude

This site should give you in idea what gear-prices are like overseas, just for comparison:

Thanks again, I wouldnt want to buy a guitar online, but as you said I'll have a better idea of pricing.

Thanks for the pics of the strat and tele, I see what -PhoeniX- meant by ugly.

One other thing, what the difference between a fender fat strat and a fender strat? They look the same.

Posted: 02 Dec 2005, 09:06
by -PhoeniX-
fender fat strat has a humbucker in the bridge. those are the good ones to get! double fat strats are even better (iron maiden sound). stick all this in the music instrument forum for cool people. this thread is mainly for music talk.

i use a gibson sg and an elephant EG-40R amp (really old but not valve) (soon to be a marshall jcm 800 stack and 4x12 cab)

effects: boss mt2 metalzone (soon to be replaced with a tech21 tri-od) boss od2 turbo overdrive for blues, jim dunlop cry baby, ernie ball volume peddle. use standard E tuning. d'ddario .009's. stock pickups

Seriously @ phoenix.
Have you seen the stuff you do with a GT8?

Posted: 06 Dec 2005, 09:03
by -PhoeniX-
yes. not impressed. also the boss distortions just arent as cool as the tech21 ones! i practically live at bothners in plumstead and ive tried every pedal and guitar they have basically! but that gt8 thing is just weak. all those buttons and settings and conjoining of effects. just not my style. my way of playing is more vintage and old school! just how i was made.

but im so hacked off! i put .010's on my guitar on sunday and it just sounds like balls now. i didnt have any money to buy .009's but i do now. at the moment it sounds like a bass guitar but with so much fret buzz and noise. just makes me angry thinking about it!

Not impressed by the GT8? fair enough that u dont like multi effect pedals... its all very well playing with it at bothners, but having one at home is a different story... If you get 2 amps you can play it in stereo, have different effects goin through each amp etc... regarding the distortions...customize ur effects.
My zoom mark II 606 sounds like a different pedal after a sat down and tweaked it.

Posted: 06 Dec 2005, 10:59
by -PhoeniX-
ergh zoom is even worse. i got one of the 505 ones for free from some dude at my dads work and i hate it. i kno its not a 606 but if its anything even close its gonna suck! i dunno ive just never been a fan of swithches and screens and all that stuff when it comes to effects.

by SHL3B1B
its not too bad for its price, I wouldnt mind a good distortion pedal. But i want a GT8! and new guitar/amp....
It was a birthday/christmas present (the zoom) it does the trick for me.

well if it works for you.

that tech21 tri od does it for me! nice thick distortions. analogue as hell!

Hey cool thread, I just discovered it. Any comments on the new System of a Down / KoRn / In Flames albums? It seems I missed the entire evolution of the Metal culture within PCF. :(

So are there any drummers on PCF? I've been playing for about a year.

And do you guys like some of the following:

Arch Enemy
Children if Bodom
In Flames
Misfits
Nightwish
Vader
The Beserker

Check this out
