Many people diss ABBA! I don't get it, they were great songwriters, light years ahead of the mainstream garbage we have today. Listen to "The winner takes it all" and "Dancing queen". Great songs.
Cliff Richard, Such a mystery. Great song.
Music became a fashion accessory. People listen to whats "in", the musicality is irrelevant. It irritates me that most people think they can have a musical opinion. Because you like something doesn't mean its good. Yes, I am a music nazi.

Re: Satanic (Black) Metal – The Dangers Thereof
I'm a die-hard Trance and Dance music connoisseur, however I will listen to pretty much anything except for heavy metal (thrash metal, black metal, speed metal and and and - the hardest I'll listen to is Linkin Park) for the same reason I don't watch drama movies or read similar literature - I am a naturally happy go lucky person and thus negative media holds no attraction to me. And that's why I think it's fair to blame the music for a certain stereotype, I rather feel that it's like honey and bees - people with a perchance more depressive or darker personality will be drawn to that kind of music. That's not to say though that other personality types can't enjoy that type of music, but music definitely categorizes people - look at the type majority of people that listen to Justin Bieber for instance, or Hannah Montana. Then look at the majority of hip-hop heads, of rockers. The music fits certain stereotypes.
I do also believe that musical frequencies definitely have the capability to alter the frequency of brainwaves - as a DJ we are taught to build up our sets from a slower, breakbeat to a faster, more progressive style that builds the crowd up progressively into a frenzy, peaking with lots of melodies and breaks - that's why there was so much "euphoria" coupled to the rave scene which has faded (albeit exacerbated by the addition of certain narcotics)
That's my 2c

Because I play an instrument? Not at all. Im no prodigy, nor do I have perfect pitch, but I like to believe that I can discern between good and bad. The coolness factor doesn't mean anything to me. If the music has good composition, harmony in arrangement, etc. Most rap, hip hop, dance, etc has so little musical complexity that it only counts as a rhythm. Then you get average/boring music, that is basically paint by numbers. Its looks ok, but anyone can do it. On the other end of the scale you get truly great music, like the classical composers. The entire 50 cent discography has less musical composition than 30 seconds of Bach.Prime wrote:And you think you can have a musical opinion? Why? Because you play an instrument?
Its not open to opinion. I believe there should be standards in music. Music, like most arts, got raped by the modernism. "Everything is relative, everything is open for interpretation." BS.

It open to opinion because your post contains almost entirely opinion. (Even if i agree with some of what you typed, it's opinion. )capanno wrote:Because I play an instrument? Not at all. Different Music suits different peoples tastes (This doesn't stop me from petitioning to have all people who rap or listen to rap and all pop singers classified into hostile species that needs extermination but it makes it harder. ) The classical composers may have been geniuses but I would rather slit my wrists than listen to half their music. On the other hand, I can listen to metal and in half an hour, I will be happy and relaxed.
If you listen to music because its cool, you need to visit the *you really want to be banned? - jee *and sign up for a date with yelling bird.

People have different taste. Some classical music makes me agitated, even though its very good. Some people love Justin Bieber, even though its pathetic. You are entitled to your taste, but that doesn't make it good. If you like rap, then like it. Just don't say "I listen to rap 'music' ". The battle is futile though because people can't discern between music and audiobooks set to a beat.Prime wrote:Different Music suits different peoples tastes (This doesn't stop me from petitioning to have all people who rap or listen to rap and all pop singers classified into hostile species that needs extermination but it makes it harder. ) The classical composers may have been geniuses but I would rather slit my wrists than listen to half their music.

I tend to agree with your general sentiment, but I do think you are being a bit harsh. As with most music these days, you shouldn't judge a genre by what is popular. I feel that the best rap (and dance) music comes from artists you have never heard of.capanno wrote:If someone would just shut that... that... howler monkey...the $%^&* up, I would listen to it!jamin_za wrote:At the top of capanno's all time greatest hits playlist:

I haven't heard that in ages, brilliant, and so out of left field for this threads title... The current members of the Pickets are absolute trash though, nothing like the original.rustypup wrote:pfft... their best number... a little emo, but technically masterful...
I agree that feeling drawn to this type of music and the specific issues you're having are signs of an underlying problem. You probably feel that you can get through it on your own, but it's probably best to speak to someone about your issues...
