Tensol 12 is a general glue, but isnt that strong.
When glueing tubes, you want your acrylic to be the same type. This means that the tube is extruded, you want to use extruded blocks for the bases and tops.
Extruded acrylic is best glued using Acryfix or Tensol 30.

Maizey do guys deliver??

Posted: 18 Apr 2008, 09:46
by Maizey
Skidd, that will work, but make them bigger than the actual tube to allow the tube to be sunk into these blocks

So this Tensol 30, does it make it tacky or is it like glue or what?

Yes, Maizey delivers. You can phone your order in and give the salesman your delivery details.

DAE, sorry that we are hijacking your post.

All acrylic glues work similar. They break down the material and rebuild the acrylic to become one solid piece of acrylic.

Cool stuff. And tapping perspex? How tough is that guys?

Posted: 18 Apr 2008, 11:26

Perspex is 10 times stronger than glass, but scratches easily.

What do you need to do? 8O

Very easy, just go slow :)

Drill the hole 0.5mm smaller than you want the thread to be, and then thread it :)

Excuse my friend, he's a bit slow.

I was under the hammer (tapping) impresion.

Skidd, that is exactly what I mean. Just make sure that the groove is wider than the wall thickness of the tube. The effect that you get is a pool of glue where the tube sinks into.

Stress can be released from the acrylic.

After all the manufacturing (tapping, glueing, bending, etc...) the product must be heated up to the operating temperature (+80 deg C) and then kept at that temperature for a time (+/- 1 hour). The cooldown period is also extended to about 2+ hours.

That should give you a stable product.

Wow so that's like tempering it?

That is correct.

Yeah, just chuck it in the oven for an hour or so and the stress will be taken care of :)
