Nice article for beginner photographers:

Pro Tips for Regular People: Five Photography Tricks Anyone Who Owns a Camera Should Know

A camera is only as capable as the person using it, but snapping some awesome images doesn't require years of training. Here are five photography pro tips that everybody ought to know.
Will struggle to learn the tip about the rule of thirds because conventional teaching for me has always been aim straight down the middle.

Just a few pics I took way back in august last year, in the very late afternoon on the R59 between Klipriver and Brackenhurst. the last one is actually swartkoppies road after you have exited the R59

So I bought myself a flash gun (SB700) but it's taking alot of fiddling and I don't feel I am using it correctly, any recommended reading? :?

Prime, the SB700 is an excellent flash.
If you are just starting with flash then I'd recommend just setting it to TTL and forget playing around with manual settings until you've got the hang of just using the flash in full auto mode.
Where ever possible bounce your flash off the ceiling (or walls for that matter) - just make sure the ceiling is white otherwise you will get some strange colour casts on peoples faces.
The SB700 manual is very detailed and makes for some heavy reading, but it does not miss anything so if there is something specific you need to do the manual will have the answer deeeeep within it's pages (download from here..http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers ... speedlight )

However if you are truly eager then the book for you is the Nikon Creative Lighting System. Be warned that you will want to buy more flashes after reading it. http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Creative-Li ... pd_sim_b_4
Excellent book..

I am looking for a new camera. I want something with manual controls, so I can adjust shutter speed, F stop...... Idont really want a super expensive SLR but something that combines a bit of the compact and SLR cameras, my budget is R2000.

so far I have found these:

http://www.cameraland.co.za/cameraland- ... ver-1.html

http://www.cameraland.co.za/cameraland- ... s2950.html

http://www.cameraland.co.za/cameraland- ... black.html

I really like the Olympus because of its 28-616mm lens, but are there any others that are in my price range....I would really like another cannon but the only one in my price range has a very wide angle lens(up to 60mm :( ) which is the same problem my current camera has. My current one is brilliant for close up stuff but it is utterly useless for large landscapes because anything even slightly too far away is blurred

//Also is this cameraland place any good, looks decent and they do ship as they are based in CT

Be careful, cannon lenses tend to break when you actually use the cannon.

I have looked around and if I stretch my budget to R2400 I can get this: http://www.buycamerasa.co.za/fuji-finep ... p-931.html The Fujifilm finePix S3300 looks like a much better camera than the others I was looking at and has a massive 26x zoom.

//So it is now between this one and the Olympus sp-610UZ. both have what I want but the fuji is about R300 more expensive and I dont really know if it is worth spending another R300. So which one do I go for?

 Yes that is my dog, she hurt her leg so she is sort of confined to her basket. But being a Jack Russell she still wants to chase the birds and stuff when she is supposed to be resting her leg

 I think I have been to that beach. You used a polarizing filter in the first one I take it, love the contrast. And that last one is stunning.
