Are you including a motivation letter with that CV? If not - they will ignore it. They need to know why you think you are the best person for that job

Sorry for the necro but I dont want to create a new topic.

I need more help seeting up my CV. For 3 months of applying to posts I haven't received 1 reply.
There is a service that will set me up a "perfect CV" however it will cost R500.

So how about CV's?

What I was thinking, is to have a cover page listing my motivations for applying for the job and what I aim to achieve; a one or two page summary of qualifications, experience and personal details; and then I have a glowing testimonial from my previous boss.

I am not sure about the testimonial though. Would it be ok to include it? It is typed in Afrikaans, is that ok?

Even if you are afrikaans you should still try and show them your ability to be able to write in english.

Apart from the testimonial, the rest of it will be in English and I fully expect the interview to be conducted in English as well. I am not daunted by it.

Believe it or not. There are a lot of people and profesionals who doesn't understand Afrikaans. It's nothing personal because just as you wont understand Russian you can't expect them to understand afrikaans.

I believe you. So, I am inclined towards translating his testimonial myself. Don't think it would be dishonest or unethical of me to do so?

why don't you attach the original (in afrikaans) and the translated one...... then they can see that you just didn't make it up...

Sounds like a good idea, though the testimonial was delivered electronically to me, so no signature. They can phone my ex-boss if they want to confirm anything.

Come to think of it, maybe I should do the translating, send it to my ex-boss for approval and get him to send a photocopy of the signed page?

No. Leave the testimonial as is. Or translate it and just don't show them the Afrikaans version. But both? No.
