I was always under the impression that the stig has the advantage of practicing on the track and get realy good at it and no person or F1 driver on this planet can beat him on it.
And since he has so much experience on the track, the recorded lap times is the best you will ever get.

The episodes keep getting better and better, The last one i seen S15 E05 i think, is where they have a tribute on the one of the greatest drivers of all, Ayrton Senna.

They tested the Buggati Veyron Supersport, and damn that was quick, didn't think those yanks would get away holding that record for very long.

As for the stig, my opinion is he has gotta be british, Either mansell or coulthard.

I am a huge fan and have all their stuff from season one until this Sunday's show, as well as their specials and some of Clarkson's books. I just wish they would have longer seasons this coming Sunday is the second last episode of the current series already.

The special of them in the US and New York. I don't know why but I think that was their worst episode ever. The Merc SLS doesn't seem so awesome anymore. It seems like its just a big boat.

THe other middle east special was good but I haven't really laughed at anything really. Their specials are usually gut busting with laughter. Their scripted sequences are also becoming more and more obvious.

Yeah they really shedding the idea of a motoring show with an extra helping of humour/entertainment; It's now vice versa.

It's also clear to see many parts of the show is scripted, but are meant to appear otherwise. Jeremy also appears more arrogant every season.

I guess their ideas work, I doubt I'd watch any other motoring show instead. Just stating things I sometimes find annoying.
