I would like to add something on this topic.

Before I begin, brilliantly done DAE.

1. You could also get another effect if you get someone to do normal engraving(router) or even 3D engraving into the acylic. Go deeper into the material.

2. We have an acrylic from Germany that transmit the light through the face of the material rather than the edge. In other words the light is transmitted into the edge of the material but will be radiated through the face of the material. PLEXIGLAS GS1002. Unfortunately these sheet are only sold in full and half sheets.
- A while ago some of you were debating the printing of pictures and applying these to your cases. Think of this: you can have different pictures printed on a "backlit" material and slide/fit in front of this material and at the same time have the picture light up like a light box. -

Some ideas to get the brain juices flowing I hope.

I've actually been playing around with that idea. Samaya and i were talking a few months ago about. You can easily get that backlit effect by sanding the one whole side of the plexi. This will cause the rough side to reflect the light, and as such, the whole piece of plexi wll light up. I did this a few weeks ago on my Xbox 360 mod and it looked eally good.

However, the bigger the piece of plexi, the more difficult it becomes to evenly sand a whole face, so the GS1002 you've mentioned might be a better option. Do you perhaps have pricing for us on the sheets (and the half sheets)?

Also, what colours are available?

The colours of the GS1002 is only clear. This allows for optimal lighting through the backlit print.

Pricing is the sad part, as everything else all plastics are manufactured from oil and it is pricy.

Estimated price is R4800.00 full sheet and R2400.00 for a half sheet.
Sheet sizes are 3050 x 2030 and 1500 x 2030.

I wanted to play around with Plexi (working for the company helps), but with my schedule there is no chanse for modding.
BTW where is the best place to get LED's from? What do you need extra to make it all work?

It looks good dude, its unfortunate that the scratches show up so clearly under the blue light. Have tried that CD fixing epoxy to fill in the scratches?

As for the LEDs. All the LEDs i buy from now on will be off ebay, but you can get them locally at any electronics store. You'll also need resistors to drop the voltage down to the rated 3.5V from your power source

Wow that is a bit on the heavy side. I think I will stick to the normal stuff

I have spoken to our one sister company that uses this amterial to build the Lumiled with, and hopefully we can organize some offcuts for you.

They will charge you for it and you will have to fetch it in JHB. Hopefully I will have an answer by early next week.

I usually carry a whole collection of circuits in my head. You cannot manually remove it but there is a download and print feature that can be accessed...

DIY FTW, it will be just need the perspex tube and put bottoms on, gotta the fittings.

You guys saw my last res that i made. DIY cost me next to nothing...

Maizey's charge per the metre of tubing anyway so it wont be much.

The tubes are sized from 5mm OD & 3mm ID up to 300mm OD & 292mm ID.
Let me know what OD you require, we can guide you to the correct tube.

Check for any chemicals that might be in the cooling agent that you are using, could attack the acrylic.

Sheesh, I might want some too. What could one use to join plexi? What would give the best seal?

Be carefull with acetone, the acrylic is extruded which puts a lot of stress on the material. Adding more stress (acetone) can cause the material to crack and start to leak.

When doing a res, get thicker blocks for base and top. Cut a sicular groove into the block (size of tube) halfway into acrylic. Fill the groove with acryfix or tensol 30 and insert tube into groove.

Yeah, i was just about to say. I have learned the hard way that you do not want to put plexi tubes under too much stress. Acetone is not a very good idea.

Maizey, someone at the stormvoel branch told me to use Tensol 12. I bought some, and it glues insanely well, but i can't see it being watertight.... Is Tensol 12 the wrong glu for watery situations?
