Why does something as important as education have to be so expensive?

Sometimes I ask myself why I keep on coming back to this idea.....how I think I am going to manage, and what I would use it for.

Particularly as I am apparently not university material.

Is this an example of "recursion"?

Why not do it even if you don't use it, it is still something you know. Payment is probably the only reasonthat needs considering but there are normaly some way even around that too

Take my advice, don't do courses or diplomas. If you can afford it and a university offers it do it there it's irrelevant whether the training is up to speed where ever you land a job with these types of companies they will send you for training anyways but the weight of a degree from a proper recognized university in getting the job cannot be matched

But surely certified IT qualifications from any accredited institution are valuable?

All qualifications are valuable, but some qualifications are more valuable than others.

If I look at some of the graduates I have encountered, I sometimes wonder why a degree is accorded such gravity.
If they need to ask a matriculant for help.....

Doesn't matter the the name of the campus that piece of paper comes from that matters

not necessarily...
you can have many papers but very little experience and they will employ the one with the experience...
i'm already over qualified for some of the jobs in my line of work...

and it depends on what you wanna study... not all the qualifications and studies can be obtained at a university...

Indeed it depends on the Job and the demand for that job but what I'm trying to say if you can afford it go to a university that has a good name over a course or a diploma

Hehe.....well...."going" to a university ain't gonna happen: I would have to give up my job to do that.
I'm kinda sceptical about Fort Hare in East London, and well.....they offer commerce, social science, managament and law subjects....

A "university graduate" couldn't figure out that the reason she could not see the folders in her inbox because the directory tree had been collapsed.....

The one next to her wanted to know how to archive his mail......

Wasn't familiar with the version of Outlook he was running, but figured it out lickety-split.

UNISA is a university and its getting up there in terms of ranking

My boss thinks he could use me in software testing and development, so let's see whether he thinks that doing a degree with Information Systems is necessary.

It probably isn't. A course or two should suffice

I guess I shall have to wait and see what he says.
