I was at the Randburg SPCA last week Wednesday dropping off some stuff at their thrift shop and took a pic of the current occupants of PCFormats kennel.

Thought you would like to see who you're helping, sorry about pic quality, taken with my V360.

How is it going guys??

Maybe we should do another sponsorship at the Randburg SPCA - I want some more goodness...
I am afraid that the Cape Town meet did not happen, it was done remotely.

Ah, ok... tis kewl...

Cammy - Maybe just update your link at the top of the page again, with prelim details about the durbz meet... It really looks sloppy when there is a 'hope to see you there' in the past date...

Why not a cat kennel / cattery? There are tons of people who like cats - should be able to get quite a few funds for that.

Well, they already have over R3k for the SPCA one, nearing R4 quickly. The SPCA also houses dogs AND cats. Thus the best option at the moment - also easier to do.

Perhaps next year he can start another one where he supports another organization or group...

This is a brilliant idea and I am so glad that people have contributed to this cause.

It seems however that it has died down considerably are you still in fact taking donations and are there still plans to sponsor more kennels or not?

Sad thing here in Botswana is we only have one SPCA in the whole country and it really isn't enough.

Hope this picks up again.

It is my Mother in law  She and my brother in law live in Gabs. I am sure you would probably bump into them - not that many people in Gabs.

As long as it is tea - she will be happy to join you. She can show you all the hot spots.

Seriously - I love going there. The people are so nice and the whole way of life is more relaxed. A good place to eat is the Mug and Bean - the food is excellent and great value for money.

GrimStoner wrote:I went to the SPCA in Centurion yesterday to adopt a dog. I work till 5-ish, so I was there a little after 5. There were still some of the staff around, and I asked one of them if I could adopt a dog, even though they are closed. He said "No... it's after 5... heh... uh... uhm..." Insisting upon it, he said that he'd call the manager (who was still there). She blatantly refused to even see us, as she "was busy with reports". Is this how the SPCA is managed? Surely, to work there, you should have SOME sense of responsibility towards the animals? "Yes, but we've got families at home waiting for us." Are they gonna be euthenized tomorrow? Is 20 mins away from home in front of the tv worth a dog's life?

I regularly donate to the SPCA, and I'd hate to stop because of some bottom that is more concerned about the chicken on her plate than the animals.

EDIT: Word replacement ftw!
lol, that's total bs... complain, complain, complain... Only way to avoid said situation from happening again.

Nice to meet you as well. I used to stay in Francistown but thank goodness moved to Gabs as it is so much better here. You won't believe how many South Africans are actually staying here. Two other good spots to go to is the Bull 'n Bush and the Boulevard.

When you come up you can pm me if you want to go for a drink or two.

Cameron - This is not to meant as an attack, but please read this and try to see our point of view.

At this time, this thread is a very bad reflection on PC Format.

It now looks, after 6 months of NO activity, as if PC Format has taken our money and decided to 'screw the SPCA'.

Over R3000 was paid in, yet the meet at the second SPCA has not even been update about. What about the 3rd kennel? Has the money just gone dormant in a bank account?

There are question arising about this...

Somewhere in THIS thread is a nice post showing that it is not just me...

Any forumites agree with me?

I was actually wondering the same thing yesterday when i was idly clicking links on the forum i got to the spca page.
An update would be good, i donated pretty late (after 2nd kennel in CT) and haven't really heard much about the 3rd kennel.
Did we eventually manage to sponsor the 3rd kennel Cameron?

Yes and no.

I can't see Cameron et al ripping us of in such a public manner on purpose.
Maybe he/they have lost interest or are too busy?

I paid money in on the 10th of June and PM'ed Cameron as arranged. PM'ed again on 22nd querying if he'd received my measly few hundred bucks.

Remebered the issue again on 5 November - finally:

So is the SPCA kennel thing dead?
You never confirmed my donation - and no sign of my name on the list?

An update would be REALLY nice.
To which he replied on the 6th:

And I'm still waiting.

Thanks...

Hmm, maybe get one of the habitual spammers to volunteer to take the project over?

They obviously have too much time on their hands.

Hi...sorry for semi hijack:

My wife and I volunteer at the Sandton SPCa and every sat morning, we walk the dogs there and give them their much needed exercise. The kennels are very full and anyone that can come in and help, would be much appreciated. We meet at 9 and its goes on until 12:45. You can come in any time you want, and stay for as long as you want. Im normaly there by 9:30 for about 2 hours. Will hopefully be there on sat morning.

PM for more details

If you're up for it we could maybe get the drive going again? Get some forumites to donate some of their hard earned Christmas bonuses maybe?

If Cameron is willing will the rest of you be keen to get this going again? Not necessarily for kennels but maybe just a cash drive with a definite end date so he's not stuck with it for the next 6 months [again]?
