Its me gloating after weeks of harrassing Intel to get me thr chips asap. I already have four P67/H67 motherboards begging to be benched.

No, I posted something because I thought I was in another thread, so I just removed it. No reference to you there.

ok so first few results on Sandybridge is out and i have to say i am extremely disappointed! Clock for clock the 860 destroys it in vantage.

Look at the CPu score in these two screenies

860 @ 4.68ghz 460GTX 2x SLI

http://hwbot.org/signature.img?iid=4774 ... ehack=.jpg
GPU: 33553
CPU: 27970

Core i5 2500k @4.7ghz 460GTX 2x SLI

http://hwbot.org/signature.img?iid=4916 ... ehack=.jpg
GPU: 31606
CPU: 23922

If you just look at the clock vs clock comparison the old 1156 i7's are still ahead BUT and theres a huge BUT, the amount of Vcore 2500k needs is substantially less than that of the 860 for the same clocks. One can almost see that running 4.7ghz is possible for 24/7 whereas on the 860 it is only reachable on extreme cooling. Now this begs the question of exactly how much headroom there is on these chips.

i was going WTH :P guess the LGA2011 sandy bridges are the ones worth waiting for...

Any temps on the 2500k running @ 4.7 GHz?

I have a few problems with that comparison.

Firstly they are not the same model brand. i.e. One is a i5 and the other is an i7 which means that the i5 does not have HT.
The memory speeds and timings are different.

When comparing two generations of processors you need to compare like with like. Put the i7-860 against the new i7-(*NDA but you can get the info else where)
You have to remove all other variables when comparing products.

This is just my opinion. My views and benchmarks of the new processors will be in the Feb issue of PCFormat.

ok so after reading about the new chips a lot more i can confidently say that the 2600k will be a winner. it has HT and 8mb of cache. now the question remains if it can beat the 980EX.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Brid ... tecture%29

the 2500k though is a winner in 3dmark 06 even though it lacks HT

http://hwbot.org/signature.img?iid=4912 ... ehack=.jpg

a CPU score over 8k without HT is massively impressive! compared here is a screenshot of a 975 over 5ghz with HT in 06

http://hwbot.org/signature.img?iid=4239 ... ehack=.jpg

extremely strange performance figures thus far. OH a user over on Hwbot has broken 5ghz on his chip using an Intel board of all things. Only 2D benches done though.

These processors are truly amazing. Will post up some OC'ed benchies on the 4th of Jan when NDA ends.

What socket will the 2600k use? And what's the difference between the 2600k and the 2600?

...i dunno im not that impressed with the chips from what ive seen - but LGA2011 is gonna be amazing IMO

1155 same as the 2500 but the 2600k has HT and its unlocked for overclocking

Seems to be a BIOS issue. Intel was the first to fix it resulting in a substantial increase in clock over the asus boards (4.7ghz vs 5.2ghz on intel with the same chip)

I'll be impressed when we can run those kinds of clocks 24/7.
