I love the way she writes she gets to the point without boring details and all her stuff is really intresting. Their might be some new books available, a guy from exclusive called me yesterday to come and have a look.RuadRauFlessa wrote:That is one caravan that knows how to write. Re: Reader's Corner
I am reading the last book in the Foundation series by Asimov. Used to love Asimov, and still hold him in high regard, but after reading Iain M. Banks, Asimov's universe seems so limited and old fashioned. For example, in the universe where the Foundation story is set, it has been so long since humans colonised the galaxy that they do not know where they came from, and yet they still use TAPE as a storage medium for digitised information. In the Banks universe, it would be rhubarbs, or the alien equivalent of, or something even more outrageous.

Age of Five without a doubt. The rest of her books are all related in some way to the magicians guild and the history thereof.

Re: Reader's Corner
canavan never grabbed me... her protagonists come across as whiny, self absorbed, automatons whose only purpose is to smear the tissue-thin plot around the place for a few hundred pages before deciding to get down and do some work in the closing chapter...
i know Anakha56 enjoyed her books, but i barely made it through 2 before writing her up as "no thanks".

Re: Reader's Corner
Right so here at work I have to write down a present I want from someone and it has to be R100 or less. So I was thinking a book now jee and rusty and some others know my sense of humour so they should be sorted for everyone else its dark and satirical so what suggestions are there? Failing that I will probably have to get a gadget thing idea...

Re: Reader's Corner
I feel the same but do get all of them at some point because they are pretty darn good.RuadRauFlessa wrote:Age of Five without a doubt. The rest of her books are all related in some way to the magicians guild and the history thereof.

Re: Reader's Corner
Your meds are wearing off. Just did a quick wiki search on her and her novels and none of them sound familiar. Also from what I read it sounds like EA used her story for Dragon Age Origins. Sorry just the quick read over this book fails to grab my attention, sorry puppy...rustypup wrote:i'm almost convinced you suggested the magician series to me... don't say the meds are wearing off...Anakha56 wrote:Who is this author now?

Re: Reader's Corner
that makes so much sense now.. explains why i remained unaffected by the storyline.. apparently i have an "i hate canavan" gene...Anakha56 wrote:from what I read it sounds like EA used her story for Dragon Age Origins.
<stops blaming Anakha56 for exposing him to the magician series>

The Dadadedada -Code
andDESCRIPTIONRobert Rankin, the world's Master of Far Fetched Fiction, takes us on a roller coaster ride in his brand-new bestseller, which focuses on the biggest conspiracy theory in the world, ever. Here, in the Da-Da-Di-Da-Da Code, you will find the music of the angels - and the music of the devil. Aliens, flying saucers from hell, the Multiverse, the Illuminati: every wacky, way-out conspiracy theory you've ever heard: they're all here, wrapped into a plot that will leave Dan Brown fans breathless, Michael Shea readers stupified, Raymond Khoury lovers incredulous ...Robert Rankin: the original and the best

Witches of Chiswick.
@ rusty so I was not the only one who was meh with DA:O storyline, thats nice to know. Only played it for the RPG sense and even that was a let down...DESCRIPTIONWe have all been lied to. A great and sinister conspiracy exists to keep us from uncovering the truth about our past. Have you ever wondered how Victorians dreamed up all that fantastic futuristic fiction? Did it ever occur to you that it might just have been based upon fact? That THE WAR OF THE WORLDS was a true account of real events? That Captain Nemo' s Nautilus even now lies rusting at the bottom of the North Sea? That there really was an invisible man? And what about the other stuff? Did you know that Queen Victoria had a sexual relationship with Dr Watson? Or that the elephant man was a product of an E.T./human hybridisation programme? Or that Jack the Ripper was a terminator robot sent from the future? Read on: and learn how a cabal of Victorian Witches from the Chiswick Townswomen's Guild, working with advanced Babbage super-computers, rewrote 19th Century history, and how a 23rd Century boy called Will Starling uncovered the truth about everything.
