this forum used to be so much better when QBM was around, at least then there were rules and you new where you stood, these days the place does seem to be run by an inner circle of spammers and trolls.
you have a choice..... but i see you prefer to moan....
as is my right.
more and more this place seems to be turning into nothing more than a meeting place for a select few with nothing to do all day but talk absolute nonsense.
I have aired my views on this before but instead of improving, the situation is just getting worse.
Well by all means, then, help the situation improve.

What chance is there of that happening when king spamrat gets rewarded by becoming a mod?

I give up, maybe I will go to babynet or something, at least there there some semblence of sanity...

Greywolf, why don't you pull finger, stop moaning and contribute to making the forum a better place?

hmmm... 7/10 for effort but 6/10 for execution... a good troll requires run-up. simply jumping in and hammering away at it says "troll" to anyone capable of reading between the lines... that and jamin_za getting excited over something on the internets in any way other than the disturbing one is, simply, too far fetched...

@GreyWolf: i disagree. yes, Sturat may play jester to the cat's spam court, but he is also the only member i've met capable of having a reasoned discussion around religion/philosophy/politics, for which he has earned my respect.

ryanrich for much the same reasons.

and i sincerely doubt i would ever view being elevated to mod as a reward... more like punishment for services rendered... now they have to carefully filter their views for fear of blowback... :/

rustypup, I will have you know that the mouse's spamming habbits had nothing to do with me. When I joined he was Schase and a very serious and respected member of this forum. He never posted in the Chill section. Then he had to go and have a child (through his wife of course). That changed the man completely. I have heard that it affects women but it seems to have had a more noticeable affect on our affable rodent. So please do not say that he plays jester in my court. It is the redhead's fault entirely.

And as for Ryan - he will hold the title up with pride and dignity. He is not a spammer but knows how to play (spar) with the best of them. His title is well deserved. (not to say the mouse doesn't, but I think they thought looooong and hard before making him a mod  )

Well, as the only person on the forum who trolled someone so badly they (allegedly) left, your approval means a great deal to me.
So if you aren't 100% happy with this effort it's back to the drawing board, I guess

Grey Wolf, I would be very sad to see you go, in fact I implore you to stay around. I sometimes feel the same way as you do, this forum has indeed changed much of the years, from a technical haven to a sort of generalised spamfest. But such is progress, I remember Fred (QBM) well, phoned him once in Atlanta Georgia, a real *****, thrived on the anonymity of the forums, both here and in the States, a Google champion of note and an unsurpassed troll, I banned him five times myself. That was the turning point, the wave broke and the spam began.
I think that I have been here for too long and will have to make a decision soon regarding my own tenure, both as an Admin and as a member. I do not like to look back from my rocker and complain how it used to be, it was more fun then, we had posters like Bondi, 9000 posts almost everyone of them extolling the virtues of a Mac machine, naughty will remember him well. BB Matt, Thrall, guys who were specialists in their fields, Thrall was a data recovery and security man of note and BB was using Linux 6 years ago, good arguments, good ideas abounded.
In fact you and I used jibe each other about Serbia, about Bosnia and all the weird and wonderful places.
Times change though, as they have here, either one lives with it or one moves on. I used to attend Forum meets with a bunch of really great guys, simmy, brabham, syncronos, jane, and her brother (k something or other), used to be around 10 - 12 of us in Cape town, now I have stopped going because I feel like everyone's father!
So yes, points to ponder.

lancelot: I've also been here about 6 and a half years and remember all those people you've mentioned. I still remember those early days of the forum with fondness and yes many things have changed, but not all of those changes have been for the bad. There is definitely a lot more senseless spam nowadays and people having hissy fits over nothing, but I've seen much worse forums. You make many very valid points but I'd rather work on making the forum a great place again rather than abandon it as many seem to have done... I hope you stay on the forum keeping your post as Admin and hope to meet you at a future CPT meet. :)

To be fair, the "senseless spam" isn't really as senseless as some are making it out to be. The fact is that the guys who frequent the Chillout section have a good relationship with each other. "Senseless spam" was g0ldback's forte: myriads of smiley faces just to increase his post count. His stated mission in life was to achieve the highest post count on the forum, which he did for a good while before taking his current job at WebAfrica, after he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Contemporary "spammers" converse a lot, and we have fun in the Chillout section, but this concept that we spam the tech threads to death is nonsense. Every "spammer" on this forum contributes in some way to the other sections too.

Yes you are right. There is. Dunno about the hissy fits, but there you go - I am one of those 'senseless spammers'.

The Rat as mod means the other mods don't have to trawl the spam threads to keep us in line?
Ron's clear distinction between Tech and Chill forums means that those of you that don't appreciated us don't have to be sullied by our proximity. Stay out of the spam threads? You may have noticed that a lot less spamming has been occurring in the tech threads lately?

Anyway - never saw a rule against it. For me, these forums are a receptible of friends that are around at the weirdest time of day - or sometimes not.
If the intention of PCFormat is to have this be another forum where only technical stuff may be discussed so be it - tell us and I at least will stuff off.

Will everyone just chill for a second and listen to themselves.

Gz to the two new mods. And yes as hamin said they deserve it. Besides democracy is overrated... Look what it did to our country. Further down the spiral.........

And as far as I am concerned if a mod is not on at least once a day he isn't doing his job as a mod. So he then loses any voting rights.

Oh and stop spamming this thread or it will be locked or worse. This thread was meant as an announcement not a debate.

Clocking the threads?

Congrats once again to the new mods. I think someone should lock down this thread, everyone should build a bridge and just get over it. Seriously.
