How charitable of you

It's no Starcraft II, but I am enjoying it immensely. I don't think I'll be playing D3 in even 2 years time unless they keep expanding it tho. I like to verse people online. Co-op is all well and good. But D3 is just a comp stomp with your buddies - they'll have to do more to keep me coming back in the long run.

Currently the different characters and randomisations will make for about a year's worth of play - that is still phenomenal really, but if they don't make it so that me and my friends can beat you and your friends I'll tire of it eventually.

Cool, so they're probably going to make it like they did in D2: 4 acts for the original game and 1 extra act for the expansion pack.

I second that!

The single player lag in Diablo III is spoiling the experience for me. I hope this is nog the way upcoming Blizzard titles like Heart of the Swarm are going. The game reminds me somewhat of Dungeon Siege III.

Still waiting for my Starter Edition to download.

The Blizzard downloader shuts down periodically. I shall probably play as a Wizard or Daemon Hunter.

:x So you mean to say that there's a good chance that the last 10 hours I left my pc on to download might be for naught?

I am not a fan of the checkpoint way of saving. I liked D2's save on exit method better

I agree. I also dont like the map going black (unexplored) each time you load a character, but I'll get use to it I guess

The amount of times I have lost some good loot because my client was disconnected is really starting to peeve me off . It seems to happen when I get a large helping of blue mixed with yellow that I get disconnected. Its happened 3 times now...

I actually like it. Map is new to explore with new dungeons and possible items to discover. Once I defeated the Skeleton King I did a rerun on the last couple of way points (mainly for the glod) and found a couple of new journals. I am now making it a point to redo each section twice, will make it longer but more glod, items & lore is worth it.

Diablo 3 review
Published on 17th May 2012 by Joe Martin

Throughout the years, I've always struggled to get on with Blizzard games. Warcraft somehow passed me by, StarCraft always seemed like a samey, hokey space western and WoW lost me as soon as I realised that there wasn't really any meaningful goal to the game. Even Diablo, long held up as Blizzard's greatest achievement, failed to impress me when I was bullied into playing it years after release.

Blizzard was a company that had become popular even despite the games it made, I thought, as their games all seemed more well-timed than they were genuinely groundbreaking. Now though, I can admit that I was wrong; I can bashfully join the furiously clicking masses of fans and say, yes, Diablo 3 is a bit good.

Frustratingly though, it's good for mostly the wrong reasons. It's not groundbreaking or original, nor is it technically marvellous. It's not even polished as well as you'd expect a AAA game to be, as proved by the game-ending bugs that Blizzard is still rushing to patch out.

...
Read on for the score. I pretty much agree with it.

Experienced bad lag for the first time today. NOT happy.

Anakhakin, I read that review earlier today and I agree with it too.

meh I have been experiencing lag quite often except at 5 in the morning had perfect connection then. Its quite painful clicking to death a monster only to find a second later it is thin air you are clicking :/. I died today because of lag luckily I did not make the switch to hardcore mode :P.

Game difficulty ramps up with more players :P

First death today at lvl14 after we entered one of the goat camps with 2 champion packs. Enemies with wall and jailor makes life hard.

Seems like mobile broadband is the way to play, haven't had a single disconnect or any noticeable lag using my HSPA modem.

Loving this game, to be quite honest I find the checkpoint mechanism pretty similar to Diablo II where it would save on exit but you would still lose progress unless you had recently located a way-point. I would always play until the next waypoint before exiting.

I am finding the skills / ruins system a bit simple and as sad as it may sound, I really miss the "Identify" and "Town Portal" scrolls, used to love finding unidentified items and portalling back to town for Cain to identify, now it's just right-click, identify.

And I still find myself potion spamming in boss fights somehow, just not during normal gameplay

@rusty (k I am posting this as a dumb-down explanation and understanding)
currently our game would connect to a server where as it would get 'random' info whenever we encounter monsters, events, treasures, etc etc right. simply put, wouldn't it then be possible to create a patch that would 'bypass' or create a 'virtual' connection, instead of their server, your own pc and in doing so, be able to get that same kind of information without being online? (also ofc taking into account, if we had all needed files on our own pc's that is currently run on servers)

hope that makes sense.

Did I miss something here?
When did rustypup become a Blizzard developer?
That would have to mean that Diablo 3 was written in Java...
If that is the case then what a feat! Considering prior to this the most visually stunning game ever written in Java was Minecraft

Congrats rusty - I too would like to know the answers to OTC's questions :P

I feel like there is a lot of recycling from Blizzards side as if they aren't sure here to go with their IPs. It was already happening in World of Warcraft with dungeons being remade instead of new ones.

So Leoric had to be put down a 2nd time, the butcher had to be put down a 2nd time but the fear of facing him no longer exists.

I finally finished Act 1 and destroyed the Butcher. Again I feel the boss was to easy while the mobs are much harder :?. Still loving the game... :(
