It looks like Aurora australis. The pic looks like South Africa viewed southwards. You can even see the Atlantic (right) and Indian Oceans (left) have separate weather, the Atlantic is more cloudy and they meet more or less in the right place. I have no idea what those lake looking things on the right of the landmass are, perhaps something to do with Geography and relief, there are no lakes in the Namib or western Karoo.

Um we don't get to see that in SA. It is Northern Lights not Southern. I guess it could be but I have always seen red and green as part of the colours - perhaps that is just a distortion through the atmosphere.
