Building a trailer

Heya

I need to build a trailer for my quad i just dont have 5000+ to buy one.
+ i still need to install a trailer hook on my car (another 1000 bucks or so)

Any one know where to begin and what i will need, also what is the law
on registering a trailer?

I'm looking for something like this

they not that hard to build.
law requires a few things eg reflectors, lights, etc.
find a design and the matarials. all you pretty much got to do is cut the right size and weild it together.
my dads built lots of them.
at the moment he is building a kitchen on one.

I know my dad bought a base sometime ago and built the rest to that spec.

He built a closed unit with a lid, not sure what it cost, I know he had to have it tested not sure if it was a road worthy test or what

I weilded my own go kart together when i was 11 years old
Needless to say it fell apart.

I still cant weld :lol:

Will have to get My Dad to weld for me.
Dunno where i'm gona get a Wheelbase thou. Scrap yard?

LMM please find out for me what weel base ur dad uses
Do you buy it or use and old car or what ?

Trailer design from scratch can become fairly complicated (centre of gravity, load transferral to your car and structural and material strengths to be considered) and they can be very dangerous if not calculated properly, suggest you buy a scrap second hand one and rebuild it. it will probably be cheaper in the long run too.

Good idea.

Last thing i want if for my quad to fall off on to the high way 8O

Anyway the wheel base has to be strong wont attempt to make one my self
i dont think putting a shaft through a hole then weild a wheel onto the other side is going to work that well :lol:
