Yeah. I used to be hectic into DH, Dirt Jumping, Slalom racing, trial. Won a class at a national before and raced all over the country. Raced a world cup, had provincial colors in DH etc etc etc

Only took one shifter vertebrae to make me realise how close I came to breaking my neck. Kinda fell out of the game that day.

Now its more free riding and xc for me.

And the nic is indeed from the tyre brand :D

I'll be in Jhb for a week (in Jhb from Sunday 5 Nov). Considering trying out the Logwood Haven trails. I've never been there.

Looks and sounds awesome, though... :D

Sounds good. :D

Also did a bit of racing a few years ago. XC. Got silver at a national at Worlds View, raced Karkloof Classic, Eshowe Classic, etc. But then WORK happened. Now trying to train up again to compete in events.

Can't help but wonder what would've happened, had I taken cycling a bit more serious..... :(

It just doesn't do anything for me (racing offroad).

Just riding for the heck of it can be nice though. Used to do that sometimes back in Ficksburg, beautiful view from the top of the mountain.

Dude. Don't even joke about Ficksburg.

That downhill course by meulspruit dam almost cost me my life :D

Best days of my life was spent on that downhill and dual course.

MTB is just about having fun. Racing and having go hand in hand

:) The old downhill course there (the one that goes right down to the dam) was incredible (not to mention rather dangerous)

Try riding it on a 12-year old MTB with no shocks, and those old pitiful brakes. Yeah, you end up walking 80% of it :)

The newer course was pathetic, in comparison.

I also had a lot of fun on the dual course (old and newer), although I never raced it, just did it for fun on my own

The old course was "shut up, hang on, and hope you make it"

I crashed out damn hectic on the top section coming out of the gate. Shifted a vertebrae in my neck. Could have broken it if I landed different.

The new course was rather tame in comparison.

Do you remember Justing, Dylan and Johan from bloem?

I remember the names Justin, and Dylan. Not sure about Johan, no.
Justin used to do it in about 5mins, scary!!!

We wathced it with the nationals, I think. One guy fell about 3-4 meters, at the steps. Thought he was dead for sure

Sheesh you guys have got some mean bikes.
I've always cycled to school/university/work if possible, always on MTB though, never had a road bike.

My current bike is:

Giant Boulder SE - and it is a total waste of money.
Not sure what components they use on it but there is always something going wrong somewhere on it. Marshmellow components i reckon !
At the moment the bottom-end bearing is going and it clicks and grinds it's way up the hills to the shops. Driving me insane.
I've taken it on a few easy off-road trials and it's ok but the front shocks are a waste of space to be honest.

If i had the means i'd certainly take a flame-thrower to it and buy something else.

Seems like nobody remembers me. Orange Pacific with White Brothers UD fork ring a bell? I managed a few 2nd places on that course.

The guy who wiped out on the steps was Dylan Victor from GT. That was one ell of a crash.

maxxis - My knowledge of DH bikes is practically non-existant, and my memory is pretty pathetic, sorry :)

I guess the only reason I remember those other two is because I heard their names often.

Who was the guy who did the stunts? (jumping on the cars/everything else)
