You'll never figure out what was going on in the writers mind when he ended NGE.
I think he was doing PCP or something when he finished the script.
That ending of the series is what keeps NGE from being one of the all-time greats IMO.
The OVA and movie do a bit to clear up the confusion, but not enough.

Yeah, I'ld agree with you there. It would be best to leave it as speculation, thereby honoring it with it's classic title.
Make no mistake, there is definitely some deep underlying themes and concepts in many anime. The like of which are undervalued and taken for gratned on account of it being animated.
Have you watched 2x2 Shinobuden. Pure slapstick nonsense, but even in this anime, eps 08 I think, there is an insinuation of Saint Mary.
And the greatest in my books, now distantly rivalled by NGE, has to be Chrno Crusade.
I love it!

The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.
If you want to come close to understanding Eva then take a step back instead of taking a step forward first.
Meaning, delve into the history of the writer.
He suffered a nervous breakdown. His actual feelings are portraired by Shinji, Rei and Asuka on screen.
All emotions in the end, leads into only one. And the magtitude of emotions started with only one. Everything points back to him.
That said the subs from the rips aren't very well worded. Hence inaccurate.
Just the anime alone is also not enough to even come close to disecting the actial plot.

I see. I always thought throughout the ending that it was a portrait of some figure in real life. But it's definitely amazing. The symbolism and the like in NGE are brilliant.
It's a pity that the so called advanced (for lack of a more appropriate word) world out there dismiss anime on the grounds of animation. Todays movies rarely move me.

Lol. Good thing I leeched it off the hdd out of curiosity.
Apparently, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is suppose to be very good. It also has a huge fan base from what I've seen.
My friend told me about E's ages ago, but it was one of those moments where I just agreed with everything he said, but didn't hear a word. Just read up and it sounds quite interesting. Super Power animes are tops in my book.
