I hate the CellC and corsa ads too.
The only ad I didnt hate, ever: I dont remember what they where advertising but the guy drove, redlight to redlight and a guy on a bike leans against the car at every stop. At the last one the guys backsup and the biked00d falls down.
[sarcasm]What an unexpected twist[sarcasm]

I like the normal Cell C ads, but I'm talking about CY - the one you'd normally see in movie theatres, where the camera follows several people talking on the phone then the guy leans up against a wall and say "ya know what I'm sayin' " in his best imitation american accent... the whole thing is so fake!!skunkymunky wrote:arrgh dood i luv those adsOnlyOneKenobi wrote:The cell C CY ad makes me want to beat the living hell out of someone, I've never been so irritated by any ad in my life...

South African TV Ads are, in general, pretty kuk! Those people can't act, making the ad look so fake!
One ad that pisses me off is the (I think) Caltex or maybe Shell where the guys from the oil research department have races with the oil down the bonnet of the BMW!

What this country lacks is competitive advertising like in the states. Except for the occassional Opel ad taking a dig at VW or BMW at Merc, but those can somtimes be a little sublime.
What happened to freedom of speech? Someone up there doesn't want to get anybodies feelings hurt, but in truth, competitive advertising makes for great viewing, and is always going to force everyone to do a little better.
Worse yet, ads that are a little controversial are just thrown out (Nandos in particular) completely leaving us with the "ho hum" of CTM and Corsa Light (bringing out the dark side of my life). Come on censors, get a life!!!

yeah competitive ads are pretty funny, I've seen a lot from the states - the Coke vs. Pepsi thing is amusing, I think coke used a photo of some sort of Pepsi delivery truck driver - in his pepsi uniform, drinking a coke.

some interesting facts:
-A lot (and I do mean a LOT) of ads for the international market are shot ands even produced in sOuth Africa. (Go figure)
-the one guy from the CTM ads is the brother to my former ComSci Lecturer.
end.
most noob add? Come on people! The DRAIN SURGEON add is the worst thing I have ever seen!
Other stupid ones: Most SuperSport ones really get me upset. They try to put so much effin feeling to the whole "sport is serious" message that they just come out so CRAP!
Any tampon add and any add that has anything to do with Vaginal Thrush! WHY THE F*** ARE THEY PLAYING IT DURING "THE SIMPSONS"!!!!?!?!?!?!

I agree with you but sometimes "majority rule" is totally ineffective - ofen, the whim of some specialist group is what goes.style121 wrote:What this country lacks is competitive advertising like in the states. Comparative advertising in this country is still illegal. I reckon it's illegal because the Ad agencies want it that way and use thier power to make sure it sticks.
It keeps a certain status quo and makes everyone (the ad agencies that is) happy.
Controversial adds are also usually singled out by the minority group they may be featuring.
If for instance, a minority group such as the Chinese are used in what could be considered derogatory in an advert and a Chinese minority group complains, the advert can be banned.
So, in a way, minority rulings are what determine the adverts we get to watch and there is no freedom of speech in that media genre.
Interesting.

snipeers, you havent watched my Dad surf the net...
He's works with steel erection and can build an oil tanker or a skyscraper in CAD, so he's no fool - but he is absolutey inept online. Its not like we havent tried to help him, but I wasnt joking when I said he is the type of guy that those stupid banner ads target.
