Earth tremor in Joburg
Did anyone else feel it? It was really strong north of Joeys. Anyone know what caused it?

no the only thing America is at fault for is everything. They are the ones that pushes their political issues down other's throats.
Yeah that and El Nino
Just joking. Must be a mine. Nothing else in the area that can cause it unless there has always been a dormant volcano in the area. In that case I'll be moving do KZN tomorrow

I was watching Narnia in some cinema in JHB south, it was quite scary... I also thought hey this is SA & this ain't supposed to happen here. 8O
I figured that at least I'll die watching a good movie.

"Hail Eärendil, of mariners most renowned, the looked for that cometh at unawares, the longed for that cometh beyond hope! Hail Eärendil, bearer of light before the Sun and Moon! Splendour of the Children of Earth, star in the darkness, jewel in the sunset, radiant in the morning!"
Of the Voyage of Eärendil , The Silmarillion

Godly voice : "Zell, you will die now with 200 tons of concrete dropping on you caused by an earthquake."
Zell : "ARGHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
Godly voice : "Dont worry, here, take this portable DVD player with The Matrix: Reloaded playing".
Zell : "...rghhhhhhh. *silence* ... "OH! ok.... carry on then"

IIRC not the first time this has happened in the east... happened once or twice while i was still local there...
also a major issue with sinkholes, etc, out there along with the permanent underground coal fires... not the most stable of areas...
still not a pleasant experience...
then again the coast has also had one or two, (quite far out), which are a trifle more concerning ... but not recently...

Most people would sooner die than think; in fact, they do so - Bertrand Russel
Whats with all the !exclamations ?? huh?Mal wrote:It musta been a mine or summing! cos There is a hell of a lot of minnig that goes on around JHB! that is the most logical cause and mines have been responsible for previous tremors! Thats what i rate! Would be nice to find out what really caused it!

I'm a bit confused. SA seems to be located in a place of high tectonic stress and tremors seem to be frequent. Why is this a surprise.
I guess I should't be confused as I live in a place where people make fun of Californians and their earthquakes all the while not knowing that the "big one" is likely to hit them.
