Super 12 Discussion
What a weekend to start off the Super 12 this year!? Stormers whipped Sharks (woot!). And the Cats thrashed the Bulls (2nd woot!)
Let's hope the Stormers and Bulls can win their away games this weekend.

"Thrashed" and "whipped" are a little strong considering
the points margin, don't you think, Envin?
In my opinion, 64-10 [for example] would be a thrashing-and it may happen when the Brumbies play a South African team. [Puts on his flameproof exoskeleton]

I loved it when the Cats forwards actually pushed the OH-SO-MIGHTY Bulls forwards back, even though they are lighter.
The bulls are propably the better team, but it looks like they expect everyone to tremble and bow down before them.
I read that Ollie le Roux said he can't remember when last he was sworn at so many times as on Saturday.

Nope. I wasn't referring to the scoreline as such. More to the gameplay. The Cats and Stormers totally outplayed their respective opposition on the weekend.supertwit wrote:"Thrashed" and "whipped" are a little strong considering

I also agree that the Sharks will be sitting pretty at the bottom of the table this year.

Ah....I see
I was not able to watch the Stormers game, but I'll
agree with you that the Cats deserved the win...BUT
I wouldn't say the Bulls did much out wide to streach the Cats' defence [they don't play the most enterprising of games, do they? ] Though I am usually a Bulls supporter, I'd have to say that I was so disappointed by their lacklustre performance on Saturday that I was glad that they didn't sneak in a win near the end.
Looking into my slightly cracked/warped crystal ball, I see a cluster of South African Super 12 Teams at the lower
part of the log [unless they REALLY get their act together] once they have played a couple of Aussie/NZ teams..... I am guessing that this year the Stormers will be the best of the SA sides, but that the
trophy will go to the usual suspects.

On another matter...
The Super 12 series are expanding to two more teams, becoming the Super 14 from next season onwards. (right?) One extra team are from Aus and the other will be an SA team. At this moment its a toss-up between the Cheetahs and Eastern Cape. Whoever gets the winning ticket, will get a considerable financial boost IMO. The SA Government is pushing for easterns, but SARFU wants to give it to the Free State. Who do you think will get the franchise ?
S
This franchise Super 14 thing is the normal balls up! (good pun don't you think?) Meddling fools in government want the present holders to bid for keeping their present set up! For example if Cheetahs want their own team and one of the others do not bid high enough, that is the end of them. So what we have is Cats, Bulls Sharks, Stormers and Elephants or whatever, now if Cheetah's want one they can bid! Can you imagine one of the present teams losing their franchise after the millions that they have pumped into Super 12! Never allow a politician into the sports arena.

Easterns a good choice
Even though I agree that the government shouldn't intervene in sports, they have a point as to why Easterns should have their own franchise.
The Easterns will consist of Eastern Province, Border and Griqualand (?). There are quite a number of good players from there.
And besides, we need another animal in the series besides a cat.
